That's easy! I am surprised you would ask! Everyone remembers the stirring 1986 movie "Long Shot Kids" starring the acclaimed American actor, Leif Garrett.

I am pretty sure Wilson was a volleyball ball, but I don't want to be picky.

I always thought this story was a pure fantasy until I recently read that socer matches between German teams and teams from the conquered actually took place. The most famous was the German attempt to create propaganda by having their teams and teams of their allies play against Ukranian soccer players of a temporary team called FC Start (which was made up of the stars of Dynamo Kiev). The Ukranians defeated a German army team and then a Hungarian and a Romanian team, which was bad for the image of the Axis powers, so the Germans fielded their best team, the undefeated Flakelf of the Luftwaffe, which were duly beaten by the Ukranians. The Germans demanded a rematch with an SS officer as referee, but despite committing every foul possible and threathening the Ukranians with execution they lost the match. The Ukranian players were arrested by the Gestapo tortured and sent to a concentration camp, only seven survived. Football is war indeed.

You can read the story here FC Dynamo Kiev

Very interesting link, Paaskynen. Thanks for posting it.

I just saw "Victory" last week, for the second time, and out of curiosity checked some reviews. This paragraph caught my attention.

"Hyped to death during the 1981 NASL season, the film was inspired by the real war-time exploits of Dynamo Kiev (renamed FC Start) who took on the Nazis and won a series of matches in 1942. Unfortunately, on this occasion the Nazis didn't take too kindly to losing and had them slaughtered like dogs."
(Reviewer: Phil Michaels)

Here's one I've been waiting to see again. I don't think it's ever been on TV.

52. Saturday's Hero (John Derek wins scholarship , and resents the fact that all that's required of him is to excel in football. )
