Yes, paaskynen, the summer solstice was a major plot element in "Insomnia". The events in the film take place in the extreme northern part of Norway. There was a lot of action in the film around a lake that was at least partially frozen (if I remember correctly).

In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994) Frankenstein's monster seeks the endless ice fields of the arctic to find peace in the end.

There is a version from around 1910 which id love to see!!The monster is fanatastic looking.

X-men 2 (2003) in which iceman does some tricks with ice.
The Incredibles (2004) had Frozone who skates on ice.

You are probably right, having had it on my mind, I have recalled more scenes, the fog and the lake. I believe it was a glacier lake. I rented the US remake yesterday, as I hadn't seen it before. It has ice in it too. It was not that bad except that the plot was made more transparant and then the name of the hero "Dormer" (close to "to sleep" or "sleeper" in French) was bit too obvious, and after he had killed his partner he was "hap"less Very Happy
