That's interesting that Remarque appeared in A Time to Love and a Time to Die. I saw that movie when it showed on TV but, of course, didn't recognize Erich Maria Remarque.

I actually noticed your original post about half an hour ago (having missed it originally, as you astutely figured I might). However, work got very busy this afternoon, so I haven't had a chance to work on it. Maybe this evening.

<The screenplay is just based on a novel by Remarque - he was a novelist, has never been an actor or appeared in a film role..>

Walter: You might wish to check these out. As I mentioned earlier, I also read Mr. Remarque's novel upon which the movie was based.

Oops - you are correct, he really acted himself in the film.

"Ice Palace" is correct. NCS: Richard Burton was in that one and Kate Burton was in "The Ice Storm".

I had forgotten Kate Burton was in The Ice Storm, so I just looked it up to see who she played. In doing so, I discovered another piece of NCS: Michael Cumpsty, who played the husband of Kate Burton's character in the revival of The Constant Wife that just ended its Broadway run last week, was also in the movie.

I'll post a new question, but will be logging off shortly, so it may be tomorrow morning before I check back for the answer.

Morgan Freeman (1) + Warren Beatty (1)

Yes to Daisy Miller. I wasn't sure if it fit the category, since I think the Henry James work was a short story or a novella rather than a full-length novel, but that obviously didn't stop you from figuring it out.

No problem with novellas. I've been tempted to post some playwright's works, but thought I'd wait until we hit the 100 mark with the novelists - unless you're getting bored with this type of question. (I haven't been able to come up with any new ideas lately. )

This thread is always open for any comments on new - or old - movies, or plays, any of you have seen lately. Smile

New Question:

(The) Jean Arthur (1) + Scott Glenn (3)

Henry James tie-in (I just finished reading a novel about him: The Master, by Colm Toibin):

(The) Only Angels Have Wings (Arthur) + The Flight of the Dove (Glenn)

Yes to The Wings of the Dove.

Did you enjoy The Master? Would you recommend it?

Having more trouble getting into A2K this morning.

I was somewhat disappointed in The Master, but that may have been because I had very high expectations for it. I preferred Author, Author, by David Lodge (another fictionalized biography of Henry James, which, coincidentally, was published around the same time as The Master). The Master covers most of James's life; Author, Author deals primarily with the time in the 1890's when he was attempting (without success) to become a playwright.

Now to try to think of a new question.

Do you know I was going to ask this one:

The Thin Man (Maureen O'Hara) (Just watched it) + The Red Shoes (Walbrook) (Love, love it) + In the Line of Fire (Russo)

I had trouble getting here, too.

Why am I not surprised that you were going to ask it? The Thin Red Line is correct.

I read three James Jones' novels and most of this author's books while commuting to and from work (over a period of several years, of course) :

Merle Streep (2) + Dale Robertson (1)
