No, I haven't been at lunch all this time (although I wish I had been) -- I'm just finding it hard to concentrate on a new question with the noise of jackhammers coming from the floor above my office.

Even though I don't have a new question, I do have news of the latest twist in the Sweet Charity saga. According to today's Times, Christina Applegate prevailed on the producers to reverse their decision and bring the show to Broadway. So now the deal is, it's going to start previews on Broadway on April 11 with Charlotte d'Amboise in the title role, then Christina Applegate is taking over on April 18 (by which time her broken foot is expected to be healed), and the show will officially open on May 4, just in time to be eligible for this year's Tonys. All I can say is, Charlotte d'Amboise must be a heck of a good sport (or very savvy about not burning her bridges) to put up with being whipsawed like this!

I hope Charlotte Dambois is sensational and they ask her to stay and she says "NO! Let Ms. Applegate have the role in this revival. I prefer waiting until a "new" musical comes along.

Bree: When you listen to music at work (you still do, don't you?) can you put on a headset/earphones and drown out all other noise?

I do still listen to music at work. Right now I've got on a CD called "Nylon & Steel", with guitar duets by Manuel Barrueco and various other guitarists. Unfortunately, however, I don't have a headset or earphones (and I don't even know how I would attach them to this computer, if I had them).

Darn! I don't think you can turn the volume up high enough for guitar music to drown out the jackhammers.

Speaking of guitar music, I have a two CD set, "Essential Guitar", but no Barrueco on it. It does have Andres Segovia, Eduardo Fernandez, Alexandre Lagoya, Pepe Romero, Los Romeros and more, including a beautiful rendition of Myers: Cavatina (The Deer Hunter) performed by guitarist John Williams.

(Oh, Gary Cooper is now carrying Helen Hayes' body to the window to hear the bells chiming the Armistice, - but she can't hear it. <sigh> )

Cavatina is on the CD I'm listening to. It's one of my favorite tracks on the CD, but I didn't know it was from The Deer Hunter until you mentioned it (the liner notes for the CD are pretty sketchy).

Your description was so vivid, I can picture it now:

Aaah, yes. The last word of the movie was : "Peace". That's when I start crying.
That's a lovely picture.

I'll bet you have Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjues on the CD, too. (I love that one. )

I am now watching "Firefly". Alan Jones is singing a lovely song - Oh I adore, I adore you Giannina Mia. As the TCM announcer says "There are no old movies - only movies we haven't seen."

Hi, Mac! Hi, all--also popping in!

We have ceiling problems too, bree--or rather upstairs tenant problems--every Weds. it sounds like Shipping & Receiving in this company gets in stoves and dishwashers and they have a game to see which person can toss them the farthest. Shocked It being Weds. we were just subjected to the afternoon version!

Yea, both my favorite teams got knocked out of the tournament in one day: Stanford AND Rutgers. Sad day.

New formats look festive, although I can't weigh in on them yet!

I want to wish mac

Fredric March (two words from a title) of France Nuyen (one word)

on her upcoming Jeopardy test. Of course, that isn't necessary, because, as we all know, she's

Alan Rickman (one word) - Judy Davis (one word),

so I'm sure her test result will be a

George Clooney (one word) - Robert DeNiro (one word).

If she's chosen for the show, I hope she wins a

Rex Harrison (one word) of Lee Remick (one word).

(Then, when she comes back to A2K, we'll all welcome her as Eddie Bracken (three words, with three letters added at the end of the last one)).

I, too, want to wish Mac

The Best Years of Our Lives - Fredric March - Joy Luck Club - France Nuyen

But, maybe Mac will tell us what we all know she is, because I must leave in 15 minutes and won't return until 2PM. But before I go, I would like to state that she is:

Love Actually and Truly, Madly, Deeply - Alan Rickman My Brilliant Career - Judy Davis

So far, so good. I hadn't thought of "Actually", but Truly Brilliant is what I was going for there.

Two more to go when you return.

VCR alert: at 8 o'clock this evening, PBS (at least, the NYC station) is showing a "Live from Lincoln Center" broadcast of Stephen Sondheim's "Passion", with Audra McDonald and Patti Lupone. From what I remember of the Broadway production of "Passion", it's one of Sondheim's darker shows (which is saying something), but anything with Audra McDonald and Patti Lupone should be worth watching.

Well, there are some interesting options for what my test result might be:

Curdled / Chaos?

Unbecoming Age / Mad Dog and Glory?

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind / Raging Bull?

But since bree's my friend, she probably meant:

The Perfect Storm / The Score

(Ha! Seems unlikely!)

I'm sure you meant to wish that I'd win

Major Barbara / Loot?

(Then, when she comes back to A2K, we'll all welcome Mac as:

The Conquering Heroine. )

Of course I meant Perfect Score!

And Hail the Conquering Hero(ine) is correct too.

You were half right on the other one -- I was going for The Honey Pot of Loot
