My hint obviously didn't deliver enough information about what I was going for! I guess I should have said that neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor dark of night can stop these actors from giving a good performance.

Aaah. That kind of "greatness". Laughing Would "Music of the Heart" be one?

Nope, not Music of the Heart. I'm about to leave the office, and I'll be out this evening. I can see that my clues are weak, so don't knock yourself trying to answer this while I'm gone. I'll try to provide more helpful clues when I get back, sometime over the weekend.

Have a great evening. Maybe, I'll come up with something over the weekend, but I have serious doubts.

Your clue was fine. Good question. I wondered about the "stamped" for greatness. (lol)

Robert Cummings - The Barefoot Mailman

Jeanne Crain - A Letter to Three Wives

Meryl Streep - Postcards from the Edge

Tom Hanks - You've Got Mail

You got it! "Stamped with greatness" was admittedly a little weak, but I was sure the postal service's motto of "neither rain, nor snow" etc. would give it away.

See you tomorrow.

Your clue was very clever, Bree. It was not weak. It was my feeble mind searching for greatness that was the problem.

Speaking of weak and feeble. My friend looked terrible the other day. With all the viruses going around, I suggested that he see:

William Hurtt

William Hurtt gave my friend some

Raul Julia

and suggested that he next see:

James Woods

James Woods ordered my friend to go to

George C. Scott

It was there, that my friend met

Renee Zellweger

(My friend has made a remarkable recovery.)

I'm so glad to hear your friend is feeling better! It sounds like he got quite the run-around before finding the cure for what ailed him. First, he saw:

The Doctor,

who gave him some

Strong Medicine

and suggested that he next see:

The Specialist,

who ordered him to go to

The Hospital,

where he met

Nurse Betty

Yes, Bree, you're absolutely correct. That's exactly what happened to my friend.

I'm up early because I heard a large crash at 5 A.M. My daughter ran into my room to see if I had fallen out of bed. (lol) Came downstairs to find my new double deck DVD/VCR player and my old VCR ,and the shelf they were on, on the floor. The shelf was anchored to the TV stand with nails and just toppled over. Now I'm worried that the shelf that the TV sits on will cave in. Yikes. Anyway, I couldn't believe it, but the DVD/VCR player is still working. Knock on wood.

Looking on the brighter side, Happy First Day of Spring to all. Very Happy

Wow -- that's some story! Glad everyone's OK. A similar thing happened once when I was spending a weekend at my mother's house. We were awakened in the middle of the night by a loud crack followed by a thud. The odd thing was, we couldn't figure out where the noise came from, until we looked in my mother's bedroom closet and discovered that the rod her clothes were hanging from had snapped (crack!), and all the clothes had fallen to the floor (thud!).

I'm so annoyed with ESPN for not showing the Rutgers women's basketball game this afternoon. Apparently ESPN decided that, of the four women's NCAA tournament games that were played at 2:30 this afternoon, the one that would be of the greatest interest to people in the New York area was the game involving teams from Maryland and Wisconsin, instead of the game involving a team from New Jersey. (Go figure.) I love the Rutgers women's basketball team, and had planned my afternoon around watching their game (which, I'm happy to say, they won handily)..

One word from a movie title for each of these actors will give you an idea of my reaction to ESPN's decision:

Robert Montgomery
Yul Brynner
Henry Fonda

Do you think my reaction was reasonable, or do I need to take a class in

Jack Nicholson?

Oh, you should have been upset. I would have felt the same way under the circumstances.

Rage in Heaven - Robert Montgomery

Triple Cross (possibly Madwoman of Chaillot)and most certainly The Sound and the Fury

12 Angry Men - Henry Fonda

and you most certainly do not need to take a class in "Anger Management" (Nicholson)

Ooh, I hadn't even thought of 12 Angry Men (and I should have, because there's a revival on Broadway right now that's a big hit)! The Fonda movie I was thinking of was The Grapes of Wrath.

I never thought of "wrath". That's much better. But, I do love the movie cast with Henry Fonda in 12 Angry Men.

You have to understand the set-up of my video equipment to appreciate the crash. (It sounded like the roof had fallen off) A friend built me an extra shelf out of very heavy plywood with four legs nailed into my TV cart so that I wouldn't have to bend over every time I recorded from the VCR. Now, this VCR was very heavy as it was a double deck. So in order for it to topple, the shelf's leg nails (over an inch in length) actually came out of the shelf of the cart . I used that shelf for more than 15 years. (A poltergeist or something had to push that shelf over.)The crash caused a dent in my wall. But, I am dwelling on this too much and do apologize for rambling on.

It's just that it was a miracle that the new DVD wasn't:

1. James Stewart (one word from the title)

and that I am able to

2. Woody Allen (three words from title)

From the old VCR there was some

3. Peter Sarsgaard (complete title)

on the floor.

and on the new DVD a small

4. Johnny Depp (one word from title)

(And as I said before, I shall Danny Kaye that the TV cart holds up.)

You're not "dwelling on this too much" -- it sounds like it was very frightening! And why do these things always happen in the middle of the night, anyway?

It's just that it was a miracle that the new DVD wasn't:

1. Broken Arrow

and that you are able to

2. Play It Again, Sam

From the old VCR there was some

3. Shattered Glass
on the floor.

and on the new DVD a small

4. Nick of Time

(I, too, shall Knock on Wood that the TV cart holds up.)

Well done. End of story. (lol)

There's a whole lot of chirping and tweeting going on in the back yard this morning. I guess they didn't listen to the weather forecast.

An article in today's New York Times (headlined "The Calendar Says Spring and You Expect Sunshine and Flowers?") quotes Henry Van Dyke as saying, "The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another." Those chirpers and tweeters in your yard obviously don't grasp the distinction.

Unfortunately, I have to do some work today (at least for a few hours). I'll be back when I can take a break.

My subway train decided not to make local stops today (due to a "rail condition"), so I had to get off at an express stop and take a

Ingrid Bergman

the rest of the way to the office. As a result, I arrived at work much later than usual, so I won't be working

Jane Fonda

today. I just had time for a cup of

Al Pacino

to keep me from dozing off at my 10:30 meeting, which is sure to be

Mel Blanc

Doy...sorry, guys. To reach back a few pages, I forgot about my verbal shorthand! Shocked It can be a bit daunting-thought since we were in the midst of talking about Summertime you'd read my mind...such as it is! Laughing

Scary bumps in the night, eh?

Well, I was listening to the Ceili Bandits, the Pogues and a great cd from Diamond Mountain on St. Patrick's--great music all! But Bree, that sounded interesting-nothing like Irish fiddle unless it's great bluegrass fiddle! Puts me in mind of Rag, Mama, Rag by The Band!

Anyway, bree
