A Movie Scene Quiz

I haven't read anything that explains the ending of Phantom, so I can't shed any light on it for you. You could always post a question about it on the imdb talk board for the movie. I have no idea how to do that, but I sometimes read the messages at the bottom of a movie's imdb page if I have questions about it.

By the way, I've been meaning to mention that Michael Crawford has had to take a leave of absence from The Woman in White until early April, because he's been sick with what is apparently a bad case of the flu. So if you were planning a trip to London to see him, don't go for a couple of months.

The Woman in White? Oh yes, I think I heard about that show somewhere. (lol) I really don't think I'll be taking any trips to see Mr. Crawford. I prefer to remember him as he was.

How cool that you went to the movies, Raggedy! Very Happy I hope it was so much fun that you go again soon.

I saw Being Julia yesterday. I'm going to try to see all of the Oscar-nominated films before the awards. (When are they, anyway?)

I loved Annette Bening's performance, and the rest of the cast too. It'll be a good one to rent.

The Oscars are February 27 (three weeks from tonight).

I agree about Being Julia -- it's the kind of movie that really doesn't have to be seen on the big screen. I don't think I'm giving too much away (but if anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet doesn't want to know anything about it, stop reading here) when I say that I loved the scene where Annette Bening is berating herself, and saying what a bad person she is, and her husband (played by Jeremy Irons) -- instead of reassuring her that she isn't as rotten a person as she says she is -- says, "Nevertheless, you're a great actress."

Uh Oh. My reply didn't go through. Anyway I said:

It was cool, Mac. And yes, I will try to go out to the movies again. "Being Julia" sounds like a good one, but it's not playing at a theater near me.

Thanks for the IMDb suggestion, Bree. A friend of mine said she will be seeing Phantom on Valentines Day and will explain the ending to us unobservant ones.

It's your turn to ask a question, Bree. Very Happy

I feel like a student who's surprised by a pop quiz: I forgot it was my turn, so I have nothing ready. This may take a while.

Would you like me to ask one that you can think about while you're eating your lunch during a pleasnt stroll in the park today?

Of course, if you get the answer, you'll then owe us two. The teacher has spoken. (lol)

Ahh, pleasant strolls. Alas, a thing of the past!
Hello all and a rainy foggy Monday it is here in SF.

I went to Caroline or Change--having decided to read nothing about it--and I adored it. Well, if you can adore something that dealt with so many types of private pain and grief and loss. wow. It was very very amazing. I loved the fact that Kushner created voices (nearly the entire thing is sung ala opera) for the radio (a trio of girl group singers) the washer and the dryer.

bree-you saw it, and I haven't been able to read any notes from Kushner yet--is it at all biographical?

Raggedy -- yes, please: would you ask a question that I can think about while I'm getting a (much-needed) haircut at lunch today?

lois -- I think Caroline or Change is very autobiographical. I'll have to see if I can dig up any of the stuff I read about it last spring.

Glad you enjoyed Caroline or Change, Lois. I'm going to check out Amazon for CD samples. Very Happy

OK. New question:

She was love-struck on the very first day that she met

1. The soft-spoken gent

with the

2. Indomitable spirit

from the

3. Steel City

and that she would never be

4. In a risky position

as long as he was by her side.

I don't believe this! I left the office before you posted your question, so I decided to spend my haircut time thinking about what my next question would be. By the time I got back to the office, I had decided to use John Wayne, and I had settled on The Quiet Man and True Grit as two of the movies, with the other two to be determined once I looked at the full list of his movies on imdb. Then I come back to A2K and see that you've posted this!

She was love-struck on the very first day that she met

1. The Quiet Man

with the

2. True Grit

from

3. Pittsburgh

and that she would never be

4. In Harm's Way

as long as he was by her side.

If I'm right, don't expect another question right away, because I'll have to go back to the drawing board to come up with something.

I'm not at all surprised. (lol) Yes, to John Wayne and all the movies.

Did you take a cup of soup and a sandwich back to the office after your haircut? If you say yes, and it was tuna, I will be surprised.

What clues were you going to use for Quiet Man and True Grit?

Oh, and I'm in no hurry Bree. Take all the time you need. I think it's just you and I here anyway and I'm going to take a three or four hour break shortly.

I was thinking of using "Marcel Marceau" for The Quiet Man (but wondered if that would be misleading, because silence isn't necessarily the same as quiet), and something like "real toughness" for True Grit.

No to the soup and sandwich, but I stopped at a salad bar on my way back to the office, and among the variety of items I selected from the salad bar was a dollop of tuna salad.

Aaaah. - Sigh of relief.- Dollop doesn't count.

I'd never have guessed it if you had used Marcel Marceau. But then again, since I was also thinking of John Wayne ......

I just got called into a 4 o'clock meeting (the people who are running this project are clearly meeting-happy), so I probably won't be back here this afternoon. Maybe I'll have a new question tonight (or tomorrow morning, or...)

This one should be easy for you:

She said, "When the conductor raises his baton to

1. signal the orchestra to begin playing,

and asks

2. the entire chorus to raise their voices,

I feel as if

3. my vocalizing could continue

4. for as long as the rain showers last."

Judy Garland said,

"When the conductor raises his baton to

1. Strike Up the Band
and asks

2. Everybody to sing
I feel as if

3. I Could Go On Singing

4. Until the Clouds Roll By

but he said that we'd go to

4. Charlies' place

afterwards, so I'm not too disappointed.
