bree,
I have never been able to figure out Mac's avatar. I know you're thinking of Sally Field (absence of malice, stay hungry). I can't think of the other two.
wandeljw, mac's avatar is a figure who appears on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and who is often referred to as the "Delphic _____" (mac, correct me if I'm wrong about any of that).
For the "Contradict" clue, think of the famous story about what the little boy supposedly said to Shoeless Joe Jackson on the steps of the courthouse after the Black Sox scandal broke, and then correct his grammar.
Sally Field:
"Say It Isn't So"
"Absence of Malice"
"Sybil" ????
"Stay Hungry"
One hundred percent correct. Sally Field was a tie-in (through Murphy's Romance) to James Garner.
Over to you.
Trick Question:
Name the first movie where Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor worked together.
Blazing Saddles? Gene Wilder acted in it, Richard Pryor co-wrote the screenplay.
bree,
Exactly. Everybody I ask gets it wrong. (But I never announce that it's a trick question.)
Without the "trick question" tip-off, I would have assumed it was Silver Streak.
I'm leaving shortly, and may not be back online until tomorrow, so I won't start a new question. The floor is open.
a man is suffocated in his bed with a pillow at the hands of his best friend.
Puff: "Best friend" made me hesitate, but I'll venture a guess: "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
Hey Puff: On Saturday I guessed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest. Is that the right answer?
Raggedy, Puff hasn't been on A2K since Friday evening -- I say, if s/he doesn't come back with an answer by Monday morning, you should go ahead and post a new question.
Sound fair enough to me.
I went to see a movie today - at the movie theater - on the wide screen. The first one I've been to since Jerry Maguire. I loved it. So did my daughter.
Want to take three guesses?
The Aviator
Vera Drake
Million Dollar Baby
It's the one movie you and Mac and Loislane won't go to see.
Of course -- Phantom!
I'm glad you liked it. Do you feel like you've been to Paris?
Paris. Not really. But I felt like I was in an opera house. I've just been reading some of the terrible reviews it got and I agree with most of the comments, except for ALW's music. (lol) My daughter is a Sarah Brightman fan and I'm partial to Michael Crawford, but we decided beforehand that we would not make comparisons and accordingly were not disappointed. However, I would not buy a CD of the movie soundtrack. I enjoyed Minnie Driver and hadn't realized until the credits came on that one of the characters I really liked in the movie was Miranda Richardson. I was impressed by the movie renditiions of Prima Donna and Masquerade which are two of my least favorite numbers on the original cast CD.
I have to find someone else who saw the movie because we didn't understand the ending. It is a scene at a cemetery and we couldn't make out whose names were on the gravestones.
