loislane,

Can you give a clue? Bree and raggedy did a lot of work but came up short only because they don't know which phrases to focus on.

Hard to know -- also with clue #4: is the clue "headlines", or "housekeeping chores", or "blame"?

Sorry guys, thought I'd been more careful with my spacing. The "real" clue is Headlines, the extra added info is the last part.

Weather got wonderful here, suddenly trees are in bloom and it's in the 60's so I am distracted!

And I admit the dinnerware/water is really really weak! But fun. And remember, it's what a superior (a bizarre clue but not the main one) woman WOULD NOT BE!
Anyway--you already have it! Aggie, you've said (ahh, but which one!)

A regular clue? ehhhh, I own a mug she bought in China and a black basalt wedgewood vase of hers that I bought at an aution when I lived in Atlanta...doesn't do it, huh?

How about, she nearly spoils a friend's life with gossip in a movie where she's a woman among...[film titled inserted here].

It has to be Rosalind Russell:

1. Ruth's sister: My Sister Eileen

2. What no superior woman should ever be: His Girl Friday (or Fast and Loose?)

3. Dinnerware with watery stains: China Seas

4. Headlines: I've got nothing for this one - were you by any chance thinking of The Front Page, which Rosalind Russell wasn't in, but which was remade as His Girl Friday, which she was in?

She nearly spoils a friend's life with gossip in a movie where she's a woman among "The Women".

Yup, you're right about Front Page! I forgot the remake didn't have the same name--sorry guys!

Fast and Loose is what I was thinking of; the superior woman are the two films where she played a Mother Superior: Trouble with Angels etc. and yes, Ruth's sister is Eileen! whew. Sorry, added a needless complication by forgetting to check IMdB for Front Page/Girl Friday!

And I do own some of Ros Russell's items which were at an amazing auction in Atlanta where they also had Douglas Fairbanks' music box: one of those enormous 12" scale pierced discs wooden and lovely ones. Way out of my range however! But I cherish the cup especially.

The tie-in was Five Finger Exercise which I saw when I was reading earlier posts!

Strange how I knew exactly what trick your mind had played on you there (probably because mine does the same thing)!

I just got to the office a little while ago, so I need to take care of a few things before I can work on coming up with a new question. (I thought I might have to take the whole day off, but fortunately finished what I had to do in time to get here early enough so that I only have to burn half a PTO day, instead of a full day -- heaven knows, those PTO days are so precious, I hate to use up more than I have to!)

If my Raggedy friend, who did more than half the work on this question, has a new question she wants to post before I come up with one, that would be fine with me.

Interim Question (no particular format)

Omar Sharif once remarked, "He is the very stereotype of a ham actor."

Who was he talking about?

Kevin Bacon? (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun.)

Not Kevin Bacon, but I thought this question would be quick and easy!

Bree: I wish I had thought of that one. (lol)

Wandeljw: I'll venture a guess that he was speaking of one of his co-stars:

Peter O'Toole
Anthony Quinn

however, my choice would be Omar Sharif himself.

Omar's choice would be: Peter O'Toole. (They worked in at least 2 movies together: "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Night of the Generals".)

Wandeljw - I'm not at all pleased with Omar's choice. Smile

Loislane: You do indeed have some treasures.

Now let me tell you. I met this:

1. Lady who acquired some wealth, but too late to do her any good

who dated anybody who came along. There was:

2. Tony - who was contrary

3. The southerner - who was vain

4. The thug - too birdlike for my taste

and the

5. Officer - hematic, to be sure

Clue #5 immediately made me think of Captain Blood, but the lady in that one was Olivia de Havilland, and I can't find any of the others for her. Back to the drawing board...

Yes, Bree. No. 5 is Captain Blood

Yes, Wandeljw:

The Heiress is No. 1
Anthony Adverse is No. 2

3 the movie is somewhat obscure

but
4. Everybody knows.

Well, #3 has to be The Proud Rebel, but I'm still stuck on #4, unless wandeljw is right about Lady in a Cage -- I don't see anything else remotely bird-like in the titles of her movies.

The score is now Bree 2, wandeljw 2: who will break the tie?

"Lady in a Cage" had thugs (one was a very young James Caan) and of course I thought bird was a reference to cage. Anyway, bree skipped her last turn to ask a question.

How about a thug who can also be called something you wear on your head and has a first name that can also be a bird. Laughing Laughing

Does that clue relate to the title of the movie, or just to the name of a character in the movie? Because I'm not seeing anything in the titles of Olivia de Havilland's movies that you can wear on your head.

I'm leaving the office now -- maybe something will occur to me on the subway on my way home.
