Although, now that I think of it, Morgan Freeman's character in Million Dollar Baby was an ex-boxer, so maybe that would disqualify him -- unless you just meant to say that he wasn't a boxer in the time period covered by the movie.
But I remember Morgan Freeman training the little fellow to box in The Power of One.
that's what I was going to use for boxing trainer.
Then if Morgan Freeman turns out to be the right answer, I think you (Raggedy) should get to ask the next question!
Speaking of the Oscars, what did you think of the nominations? I guess the big surprise was the omission of Liam Neeson from the best actor category (and indeed of any nominations for Kinsey), and maybe also the fact that Jamie Foxx was nominated as both best actor and best supporting actor. And, of course, I was sorry not to see Meryl Streep get a supporting actress nomination for The Manchurian Candidate.
Bree: I just saw the nominations at IMDb. When did they announce them?
I haven't seen any of the movies so I can't comment, but I do have preferences.

I want Freeman and Johnny Depp to win
If I'm right about Freeman, I'll leave the question open for the first person who cares to post. I don't have one ready right now.
The nominations were announced this morning, at 8:30 Eastern time. I missed the live announcements, because I was on my way to work, but when I got in, I immediately looked for them on Imdb, so that I'd sound knowledgeable when a friend who calls me every year on Oscar-nominations day called to ask me what I thought of them.
LOL! Do we have a thread on this yet? I forgot today was the day.
I still haven't seen The Aviator, but based on what I've seen so far I'm rooting for Don Cheadle for best actor, Imelda Staunton for best actress, Morgan Freeman for best supporting actor, and Virginia Madsen for best supporting actress.
Unless I love The Aviator when I see it, I don't have a strong rooting favorite for best picture: I've seen all the other best picture nominees, and thought they were OK, but none of them blew me away. My favorite movie of the year, Vera Drake, didn't get a best picture nomination, but Mike Leigh, who directed it, got a best director nomination (in place of Marc Forster, who directed Finding Neverland and who I guess isn't well-enough known in Hollywood).
I've just read about the movie and Imelda Staunton. I notice that she was in "Into the Woods". You probably know all about her - she's a newcomer to me. "Vera Drake" interests me.
I didn't see Imelda Staunton in "Into the Woods" - I've only seen the Broadway production of that one, which she wasn't in. I first noticed her in a movie called "Antonia and Jane" (which - noncausal synchronicity rears its head - co-starred Saskia Reeves, who I thought was the best thing about the new Masterpiece Theater that started on Sunday night). Shortly after that, she was in a movie called "Peter's Friends" (directed by Kenneth Branagh, with an ensemble cast of young English actors). Since then, she's had small parts in "Much Ado About Nothing", "Sense and Sensibility", and "Shakespeare in Love" (she was Gwyneth Paltrow's nurse), but "Vera Drake" is the first movie she's carried in a leading role.
I also saw Peter's Friends, but don't remember all the actors in that one. I do, of course, remember Paltrow's nurse in Shakespeare in Love.
Oh, I just saw in the TV Guide that The Screen Actors Guild Awards will be on TNT on Saturday, February 5, and that Hotel Rwanda has been nominated for Best Picture in addition to the four Oscar nominated films.
Hi, all--sorry swamped this afternoon! Yes to Morgan, and it was Power of One I was thinking of rather than Million Dollar Baby--hoped to stump you on that but Raggedy jumps in! Powerful in Pittsburgh finishes the brilliant start by bree!
I have been so behind in movies, I've only seen two of the best pile. Going to see Sideways and Rwanda this weekend!
Hey, Raggedy, which of the 4 made it with Hotel Rwanda?
So either one of you call the question!
Well, bree, sounds like you're voting for Oscar winners by excellence--that will never do!
Gotta stir the political pot, andd a soupcon (sorry, no idea where the cedilla is!) :-) of whose career is near the end and we should've actually given it to them for that other performance but we forgot/or didn't want to/or owed someone else!
Oh, the four movies that were nominated for Oscars, with the addition of Hotel Rwanda, have been nominated for best pic by the Screen Actors Guild.
I thought Freeman was superb in The Power of One, but it was such a sad movie.
I'll be thinking about a new question. You, too, Bree.
OK. New Question:
Publishing firm magnate
Attorney
Doctor
Real-life Vietnam veteran
Tom Cruise
Publishing firm magnate - Vanilla Sky
Attorney - The Firm
Doctor - Eyes Wide Shut
Real-life Vietnam veteran - Born on the Fourth of July (as Ron Kovic)
Yes to Tom Cruise and all the movies. Our snow banks have all turned into a mound of slush. Hope yours are the same.
Our snowbanks are indeed melting (it's a toasty 38 degrees here today), so now crossing the street involves either leaping over, or wading through, puddles the size of small lakes. Can you tell I hate winter?
They're actually making me work for my living today (I hate when that happens), so I can't post a new question right now, but I'll try to come up with one later today.
High today - 42 with flurries - low tonight 10
Thursday - High 18 - Low - 2
Friday - 26 and mostly sunny
I'm sharpening my ice skate blades now. I'm going out Friday if I have to skate over the puddles which will be frozen ponds by then, or hire a dog sled. Know where there are any reasonably priced dogs for rent?
In the meantime, here's one to ponder, which we'll set aside when Bree returns:
Escaped prisoner
Doctor/medical expert
High School teacher
Beggar
