Wow, I had completely forgotten he played Kaufmann in Act One! Sorry I misled you when I said he never played a playwright.

The other novelist he played was Lew Wallace (author of Ben-Hur) in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.

Oh, and I thought of using Melvin and Howard, but decided not to because I thought "eccentric billionaire" would have given it away. Your description of Hughes as a movie director/producer would have been much better.

Oh good heavens! I never made the connection with author Lew Wallace and the Governor in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. I saw that movie a long time ago, but don't remember Jason Robards at all. I remember that Bob Dylan wrote the music.

We were on the same wavelength. (lol)

Mac, are you still here? Would you like to ask one? I don't have one ready right now.

Yeah, me too (at the office today). We don't get any holidays between New Year's and Memorial Day -- not even President's Day. The only good thing about it is the subway isn't very crowded.

Now to think about Raggedy's question...

We get Good Friday - that will be 3/25 this year. (I'm not counting or anything! They provide handy calendars with the holidays prominently marked. Very Happy )

Yes, on to Raggedy's interesting question...

Aaaah. I thought you guys were at home comfy-cozy in your sloppy flannel robes.( Now you have a picture of me, except the robe is not flannel). I am sorry that you had to work today. Sad

That's a lovely image! And it would be really nice to be able to sit around the house in a flannel robe tomorrow, when the temperature here is supposed to get down into the single digits. Alas, however, it is not to be.

Still no idea on your question. Maybe something will occur to me overnight.

Hello, mac, aggie and bree. Back from a stunning long weekend in Point Reyes and buckling down to...well, go to bed actually!

However, I'm catching up with the posts in my absence (Cool--heard a amazing countertenor in Paris in Notre Dame who may have been Daniels--I love his voice!)
Dittos-ville on the Dawn Upshaw! I completely placed her on the shelf, and just downloaded a bunch of Audra because of posts of yore; now I'm going to have to run and download Dawn Upshaw!

Speaking of holidays--that schmuck governator of ours is talking about eliminating holidays as a way to save money. Oh, please. Tax the stupid humvees, like, err the one you drive Ahhnold! Sorry, just had to let it out!

Anyway, no doubt you'll be charging along on this one before I wake up tomorrow; hopefully I'll meet up with you later!

Welcome back, Loislane. Very Happy

What'll I Do? That's what I'm listening to right now.Oh, now it's "Remember". Love it. And the piano is great.
Yep. "Always, Irving Berlin" arrived this A.M. Very Happy Two down and one to go.
"Suppertime" is a surprise. I just saw a skit of Ethel Waters performing it on TCM, but don't remember the movie it was featured in. Great number.

Recap of movie question if anyone is still fiddling around with it.

This actor played:

Same fictional Detective three times
Real-life Emperor
Scientist/Professor
Fictional Prince (also played a Prince in another movie, but was uncredited)

Laughing Yes to Peter Ustinov. However, the Prince movie I had in mind was "Beau Brummel". I never thought of "Robin Hood". Was it the "fiddling around" comment that gave it to you?

I think maybe so: Beau Brummell was a real person, so the "Prince of Wales" whom Ustinov portrayed in that movie was probably a real-life prince. But that had nothing to do with why it took me so long to answer the question.

The "fiddling around" clue may have given me the answer subconsciously, but I didn't consciously make the connection between the clue and Nero. I was just looking up the names of all the emperors I could think of on imdb, and eventually I got around to Nero. When I saw that Ustinov had played him in Quo Vadis, I immediately made the connection to Hercule Poirot, and from there the rest fell into place.

But enough about me and how my mind works - it's time for the next question!

This actor has played:

Real-life king (twice)
Music teacher
Fictional animal rights activist
Servant (three times, twice in the same role)

I'm thinking about this Bree, but not having much luck. Two ideas I'm working on though.

Don't forget your earmuffs and mittens on the way home.

There's no chance that I'll forget either of those things! But, by my calculations, the start of the baseball season is only about 80 days away, so I'll try to let that thought keep me warm.
