I'm thinking about your question...

So I told you the other day that the cable company had removed Bravo from my cable service over to digital cable. I checked and it only costs $3/month to switch to digital - no installation charge, free converter box.

So I'll get Bravo back today, plus TCM Very Happy and something called Ovation (just the title sounds like a Bravo ripoff) and about 50 other new channels as well as 50 digital music channels. <Sigh> I just wanted Bravo back. I probably won't try to figure it all out until the weekend.

Yea, Mac. Very Happy In February TCM will devote the month to Oscar winning movies, directors and stars, etc. Then, in March, they'll go back to the oldies. But, no commercials. Oh, you'll probably get Encore, too. Commercial free.

I think I get BBC, but I haven't had time to watch it, or Bravo. By April, I should have everything I want to record from TCM - I hope. Am I missing something from BBC, Bree.

No, I won't have Encore. It's a premium digital channel so I'd have to pay extra for it - just like HBO or Showtime or Starz etc.

The Office is on BBC America, and mac, I'll bet you are unwilling to give up any of those new additions to your line up soon!

Now that Bravo has been bought by some dumpy channel, it isn't what is used to be! Ovation is really quite wonderful, and sad to say, lost to us here!

The Office is mainly what I was thinking about when I asked about BBC America (which I unfortunately don't get), but it also shows re-runs of The Avengers every Friday night, which as far as I'm concerned is reason enough to want the channel!

Yes, and they've just been through the heart of some of the best: The Winged Avenger, Something Nasty in the Nursery and a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station.

bree, can't you change over to digital and get BBC?

Yeah, I could probably change to digital and get BBC America -- it's just one of the many things that need to be done in my life that I haven't gotten around to.

There's Digital Classic which has BBC America & Bravo & Independent Film Channel among others
Digital Premier which has Ovation, etc.
Digital Plus which has Encore channels and Sundance, et al
and Digital Pemium which is he pay stations, HBO, Sho, etc.

Don't let it confuse you Mac. You'll find out how to get the channels you want quickly enough.

I'm not sure what I have. (lol)

Disgustingly busy at work this morning, so I haven't had much time to think about your question. When I think of fictional singing groups in movies, I keep coming back to A Mighty Wind, but there were so many members of that group, it's hard to narrow it down. Maybe I should focus on one of the other roles....

OK. This is a movie scene quiz, but for now I'm making it a MUSIC scene, because today IT arrived.

The Andrea Marcovicci "What Is Love" CD from another dealer through Amazon. And I'm listening to "These Foolish Things" for the second time right now. I had never liked anyone but Bing Crosby doing that song, and then Bree mentioned Andrea. And I ordered 3 CDs from Amazon which never arrived. Thank you Bree. I love, love, love it.

There's more. I was so surprised, while listening to the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem, to hear "Stay Well". It's the only time I've heard it since "Lost in the Stars", (Paton's Cry the Beloved Country) and I love Andrea's arrangement.

And then I couldn't believe I was hearing J. D. Souther. Once upon a time I had a record by him of "Black Roses, White Rhythm and Blues" that I wore the grooves down on. (I just looked him up and he has made a CD of it). What a treat to hear him with Andrea.

I've still got 13 more songs to listen to so I may be back. Oh, and did I say I love the CD? Laughing

Just saw your post, Bree. Now, you've got me wondering if they were a singing group only in flashbacks. (I didn't see the movie) But, the soundtrack listing does mention three songs that the fruity group performed in the movie though. They don't sound too sweet to me.

I was just recording a B'Way musical called Jamaica with Lena Horne and Richard Montalban (1957) and discovered that Ossie Davis performs two of the (calypso type) numbers. I had never noticed that before. Just thought I'd add that bit of info for you trivia lovers. Very Happy

Also was wondering if my comments about the fruity singing group were of any assistance.
