Hint:
U. S. Pres. (part of the time)/captain (part of the time)/ Dr. (part of the time)
TV writer (part of the time) - school psychologist (part of the time)
I just came back here to post this in order to get a hint, and I'm going to post it anyway, in order to get clarification of that hint. Are you saying this performer played all those roles in one movie?
I want to say Richard Dreyfuss, because his name came up a little while ago, and because I can find two of the four roles for him (psychiatrist in What About Bob? and pianist in The Competition). But I can't find any part-time fictional U.S. presidents or TV writers he's played. So let's count him as one guess, and I'll make two more guesses to get a clue, because I'm obviously never going to get it otherwise.
Geoffrey Rush (pianist in Shine)
Billy Crystal (psychiatrist in Analyze This and Analyze That -- I thought of him before I knew the psychiatrist was really a school psychologist, so I'm sticking with him as a guess)
Yes. I'm saying in one movie he was a U.S. Pres.; Captain; and Dr.
In another he was a TV writer and school psychologist.
And you most certainly know the movie in which he played a pianist.
Peter Sellers.
President/Captain/Dr = Dr. Strangelove.
Pianist/TV writer = unknown
I thought about Dreyfuss too because of Moon over Parador.....but that wasn't a US President..Im thinking..
Hey max -- long time to see! Good to see you again.
Yes Ticomaya: It is Peter Sellers. Do you have a question for us?
Max: I was just thinking about you a half hour ago. Something told me you would be here this evening. I came over to the computer to see. Lo and behold.
Happy New Year to you. Kick off your shoes for the New Year and stay awhile.
Yes, I certainly should have thought of The World of Henry Orient for the pianist! But I had forgotten (if I ever knew) what Quilty's occupation was in Lolita, and that Sellers played two roles in that movie. Actually, I've only seen the Jeremy Irons version, and I don't think Frank Langella (who was Quilty in that version) played two characters.
There was more to the question, Ticomaya.
Bree answered the "pianist".
So, in what movie did he play a psychiatrist?
Yes, Max. He was a psychiatrist in "What's New Pussycat?".
I'm logging off now. Hope to see you all tomorrow evening.
May I nominate Max to ask the next question? I only pop in here occasionally, and would not want to hijack the flow. Thanks.
It was really Bree's turn when I submitted a question. Bree....paging Bree. Do you have a question or would you prefer that I ask one?
Were you by any chance a bellhop in a previous life? That was a very effective page!
No, I don't have a question right now, so please ask one if you have one.
I don't recall bellhop.
(BTW, is A2K very slow, or is it my computer?)
I can't think of any real-lifers, bellhops or royalty, etc. at the moment, so:
Lawyer
Produce wholesaler
Baseball coach
Architect
My computer is slow for everything tonight, so I can't tell if A2K is especially slow.
Off to think about your question...
The "baseball coach" immediately made me think of Tom Hanks, and two of the other three movies came fairly quickly after that, but I confess I had to resort to Google to find the produce wholesaler.
Lawyer - Philadelphia
Produce wholesaler - Splash
Baseball coach - A League of Their Own
Architect - Sleepless in Seattle
I'm off to bed -- I'll try to look in tomorrow and post a new question, if I'm right about this one.
You are absolutely correct. Tom Hanks is the man. Sweet Dreams. I'm off to bed, too.
