Laughing Thanks, Mac. I knew I could count on you. Now, I'll think about a new signature. Oh, I see you've got June bustin' out all over. (lol)

I like your new signatures, both you guys! That Bertrand Russell, he was one smart fellow. And I can't wait to see what July brings!

Very Happy Thank you, Bree. Two more days to go for Mac's new signature. I'm curious, too.

The TCM movie tonight is Hud and I just can't watch that one again. So, here I am. At least for another half hour.

Did I tell Mac, I like her signature? Did Bree also tell her? (Do I think I'm in the question conversation game? )

Happy Fourth to all and to all a Monday day of relaxation or whatever pleases you. Very Happy

And to you, Raggedy!

One thing I don't think I'll be doing on my weekend off is seeing De-lovely, based on the reviews in this morning's papers: the New York Times reviewer said it's "lethally inert," and the Wall Street Journal (whose arts critics I usually agree with, even though the same can't be said of their editorial policy) called it "de-dreary." What a shame.

Oh, that is a shame.

Last night Cary Grant's version of "Night and Day" was on again and I, of course, watched it again. I know it was a fabricated bio, but the music was so enjoyable.

If you get a spare minute, Bree, would you post the link to the N.Y. Time's review. I think I can access it without being a subscriber.

Here's the link:

New York Times review of "De-Lovely"

When I went to the Times website to get the link, I saw a story reporting that Marlon Brando died yesterday. Between him and Ray Charles, that's two giants gone.

Thanks for the link bree. I'll probably go see it anyway (if or when it gets here) as I'm just a glutton for punishment sometimes!

I'm glad my July signature gets good reviews, at least. Very Happy

Thank you Bree. I've just printed the article. ("Too Darn Hot" remains a steady, air-conditioned 68 degrees.") I had already been a bit turned-off when I read earlier that "Begin the Beguine" was transformed into a melancholy lament ,and director Irwin Winkler said "I wanted to use the music as I felt the emotions required rather than stick to what he (Cole Porter) wrote when he wrote it." (That was the first warning.)

Oh, I feel so sad about Brando. It never mattered to me that his later screen roles were mediocre. He was magnificent in "Streetcar" and "On the Waterfront" and I'll always remember him for those roles.

I agree Raggedy. He was two separate actors to me. Maybe three.

Here's an oldie:

After a performance at a Buffalo theater, a stagestruck young woman goes backstage to ask an elderly actor's advice about whether she should try her luck in New York. As they speak, he casually removes his white beard and eyebrows and reveals, to her amazement, that he is actually a young man.

Yes to Yankee Doodle Dandy! I watched it again last night.

When I was a kid, a local television station used to show Yankee Doodle Dandy every Fourth of July. They showed it over and over, all day long, and I used to sit in front of the TV and watch every single showing from beginning to end. My cousins would arrive to go to the local fireworks display with us, and I would barely turn my head away from the TV to say hello to them. Those pre-VCR and pre-DVD days, when you had to catch a favorite movie whenever it was on TV, because it might be another year before you had a chance to see it again, seem very long ago now.
