I'm curious about that, too. "Plenty" had some notable actors. (John Gielgud, Charles Dance, Ian McKellen, Sam Neill). Also Sting and Burt Kwouk( I'm not familiar with him.) I think the only two Streep movies I haven't seen are "Plenty" and "Death Becomes Her" (which didn't appeal to me). "Plenty" sounds interesting.
I watched it, thanks to Raggedy's helpful reminder yesterday!
I think the only Streep films I've missed are Plenty and Marvin's Room. (I hated that play, and couldn't bring myself to watch it even with a great cast.)
Where was Dustin Hoffman? And why did they skip Adaptation, and Falling in Love? I know why they skipped She-Devil. Dreadful movie.
Loved Ullman, Ephron, and Carrie Fisher too. Jim Carrey was over the top, but what else is new?
I especially loved watching her response to the praise. She was horribly embarrassed!
Oh, I didn't see Adaptation or She-Devil (that's the one I didnt care to see) either. Her husband looked embarrassed when Carey was "on".
I wish they would have shown more of her children. I loved Meryl's expression and reaction when they showed the scene of her daughter as the baby in Heartburn.
It was very interesting to see her kids. They look like her, but not exactly. And I didn't recall that they used her baby in Heartburn.
Oh, James Woods isn't one of my favorite actors, but I liked his story about Streep meeting her husband.
I don't recall seeing House of the Spirits, Before and After or Defending Your Life (Albert Brooks. I loved her in that one.) Since DeNiro was there, you would have thought that they would have shown a scene from Falling in Love, Mac.
REMINDER for tonight. CBS will air a three-hour show of the countdown of 100 songs from the movies.
Thanks for the reminder! The commercials for this one look interesting.
But I'm not sure I have 3 hours to sit still tonite. Might have it on in the background while I try to get my life in order a bit...
Darn. Well, if "order" just can't wait, Tape It, Mac. That's what I'm going to do.
I think I've seen all of Meryl Streep's screen appearances, except for one or two that should have asterisks next to them (like AI, in which she was the voice of the Blue Fairy). Quite a few of them -- like She-Devil -- were stinkers, but once I realized I had a perfect (or near-perfect) record, I couldn't bring myself to skip any of them!
I don't remember Plenty all that well, but I remember thinking that it didn't make the transition from stage to screen very well. I saw the original off-Broadway production, which starred Kate Nelligan, who was very good. However, I think the problem with the movie wasn't Meryl's performance, it was the screenplay. Oddly enough, the screenplay was by David Hare, who also wrote the play, which may just prove that good playwrights don't necessarily make good screenwriters.
By the way, I also saw Meryl Streep in a college production of Miss Julie (briefly alluded to in last night's tribute) in 1970 or 1971. I think still have the programs for just about every play I've ever seen in my life, but wouldn't you know it, I can't find that program! I wonder what it would fetch on eBay...
You'll find that program, Bree, and when you do, you'll put it away again in a "safe" place where you can't find it the next time. Forget about eBay. You cannot put a price on a collection such as yours. Just today I set a time limit for my movie collection and you might also consider doing the same. I've decided I shall not part with anything until age 98. If I have to go to a Happy Haven before that time, it will be on condition that the establishment has ample book shelves. I'm saving money for the moving van.
Raggedy, I'm laughing at your "age 98" cut-off rule! On the other hand, I just read a review of a book called If I Live to Be 100: Lessons From the Centenarians, which consists of interviews with people who are 100 years old or older; the review mentions that, when one of the interviewees recently died, 14 days shy of his 104th birthday, one of his colleagues said, "He died of a broken routine." So maybe we should hang on to those collections after all!

I agree. Let's hold on. (I'll have to read that book.)
Good day to all. While I, or someone else, I hope, thinks of a movie scene, I'm going to ask for some guidance because I don't want to start a new thread about this. Is there somewhere on A2K where I can get some info on how to Change or Delete my signature line?
Oh, let's just interrupt your lovely game thread to talk about it...
Click on Profile near the top of any page. (Just above the top ad.)
There's a box there labeled "Signature" where you can edit or delete your signature. (Remember that if you change your current signature, you won't be able to have color or other formatting as it's not allowed any longer. Old sigs that still have it can keep it...)
Thank you, Mac. But I tried that. I click on "signature" and nothing happens.
Really? Ok, hang on, I'll try to change mine and see what happens.
I forgot to tell you the last step. After you change the signature, you have to click on Submit at the bottom of the page.
I just read your last post more carefully. You don't need to click on the word "signature" on the profile page, just change the box with your signature.

But I can't find a box that says "submit". The box is there with my signature. I deleted my signature, but nothing came up that said "delete" or "edit" or "submit" and my signature came right back. Maybe I'm not in the right place on the profile page.
After you change the signature, scroll down to the bottom of the page. You should see Submit and Reset...
