nope not those 3
clue: the grandfather is very traditional, and wishes to continue in the ways of old...he starts a school to test the boys of the village.
Whale Rider? (sounds like an interesting movie)
yes raggedy it is Whale Rider! I fell in love with the movie, i seem to have an affinity for New Zealand Flicks depicting the Maoris...also loved Once Were Warriors...If i had not already seen Return of the King..I might have voted for Whale Rider as Best Movie. ...:-)
Willow, I didn't see Once Were Warriers at the theater - I saw it on TV - and I thought it was a great movie - very sad, though.
Oldie: before 1960
She meets a drifter on the wharf. They "make believe" they're in love. They marry soon after their meeting, but he has a gambling habit which puts them in debt.
Show Boat: could be either the 1936 (Irene Dunne/Allan Jones/Helen Morgan) or 1951 (Kathryn Grayson/Howard Keel/Ava Gardner) version, based on the date
You didn't think that buried clue would slip past me, did you, Raggedy?
Bree, I figured it would be either you or Mac for that scene.

I do love that movie. (both versions, Paul Robeson for the original, but Technicolor for the remake). Take it away!
Oldie
A man looks through the contents of a trunk belonging to someone who's staying in his home, searching for evidence that the guest has swindled his wife out of her inheritance.
A Streetcar Named Desire?
You got it! It came to mind because today's paper mentioned that Natasha Richardson is going to play Blanche in a revival of Streetcar on Broadway next season. That's one I'll buy a ticket for.
Ah, yes. Natasha should be great. But, who will play Stanley? I just can't accept anyone but Brando in that role.
Oldie:
It's the first time he hasn't invited his mother to accompany him on a trip. His cousin is his companion for his fatal European vacation.
Suddenly, Last Summer?
No word yet on the casting of Stanley. I'd love to see Liam Neeson in the part. He and Natasha met when they acted together in a production of Anna Christie that was done by the same theater company that's doing Streetcar, so it would be only fitting for them to appear together in this production.
I like Liam Neeson, but I can't see him as Stanley. (He's too tall and not animalistic enough. LoL) But then again, I just can't seen anyone but Brando. Just as I can't see anyone but Gable as Rhett. On TV, I saw Treat Williams with Ann-Margret (I thought she was very good as Blanche) and Alec Baldwin opposite Jessica Lange, and I grumbled during both presentations.
Yes to Suddenly Last Summer. I saw it again the other night on TV and appreciated Elizabeth Taylor's performance for the first time. When I first saw the movie, I was unable to take my eyes away from Hepburn.
Sorry for the delay -- work just got busy. I may not be able to come back with another scene today, so if someone else wants to start one, please go ahead.
Oldie:
Strolling along the beach, the prospective father is undecided about whether he'd prefer a boy or girl. At first he thought he wanted a boy, named after him, but then he starts thinking that a girl might not be so bad - a kid with pigtails in her hair.
Yes to Carousel. Take it, Fealola.
