@msolga,
Good Morning msolga!

Is it too early for you to drink a teatini?

@tsarstepan,
It isn't morning any more, tsar. It's a little after 1 pm. I understand your confusion, though. Now I use this all the time!:

Time-challenged no more! Very Happy

The teatini looks absolutely delightful, but I need to know if it contains plonk or not, so's not to wipe myself out for the afternoon. Thank you! You are too kind!

And how are you at precisely 9;42 pm in New York City?

@msolga,
Alls fair in NYC. Drinking a mug of iced green tea.

Tomorrow, I'll be donating platelets for the first time since I lost my job. My lack of donating platelets has been a guilty burden for me so I'm feeling rather good about my appointment Monday.

@tsarstepan,
I'm an igoramus, tsar. What does donating platelets actually involve? What does it mean, even?

Duh.

An iced cup of green tea! What an excellent idea!

@msolga,
Sitting down on a cushioned lounger for a couple of hours (1 and a half to two hours) while a needle in the arm draws out whole blood into a machine. The machine sorts out the platelets then periodically sends the blood back through the same needle/line. All I have to do is casually and repeatedly squeeze a rubber ball when the machine is drawing out the blood then stop squeezing the ball when the machine is returning the blood.\

Platelet Donations

A platelet donation uses automated technology to collect a concentrated volume of platelets. Platelets are necessary for clotting and are needed by cancer patients, accident victims and others with blood clotting problems.

@Dutchy,
Thank you for posting the photographs. I feel helpless living on the complete opposite side from your neck of the world.

I'm going to hit the proverbial hay after playing one more round of Free Cell.

Bonne nuit tout le monde! Try to stay safe yet remain carefree....

@tsarstepan,
Why not whole blood? I neglected the whole thing for years, but I have time for it now.

@tsarstepan,
Oh you mean you're donating blood, tsar! Now that I understand. Good for you!
Now I'm thinking I haven't done that for a few years & should consider doing it again.
At the Melbourne Blood Bank they give you a cup of tea & a sweet biscuit, to give you a bit of a boost after the blood loss, I guess. I hope you get yours, too! Very Happy

@roger,
It depends on your blood type. It turns out for my blood type (A+), platelets can be used by a larger sized population then if I donated whole blood.

Quote:
Patient Benefits
A single apheresis donation of platelets can provide as many platelets as 5 whole blood donations. In addition, a platelet transfusion from a single donor greatly reduces the chances of an immune system reaction to the transfusion. Bone marrow transplant, cancer and leukemia patients whose immune systems are already compromised, benefit particularly from single donor platelet transfusions.

There is a great pamphlet at the NY Blood Center describing which donation is best suited for which blood type but I can't find it online.

@Dutchy,
Ha.

You'll have to buy some ear plugs.

You have an influx of them? We do. They're flocking to the city because of the drought, poor things. Noisy little devils, aren't they? Smile
