How about you? Everything OK with your family in Port Lincoln?
I hope you managed a bit of R & R amidst all the drama!

@Dutchy,
Sorry it wasn't quite the break you'd anticipated, Dutchy. I'm glad you managed to get a bit of fishing in, though.

I won't forget this Christmas in a hurry that's for sure. I'm counting my blessings having seen such traumatic scenes so close at hand.

@msolga,
I tell you what msolga, the "Greenies" have a lot to answer for, when they will analyse this fire!

@Dutchy,
You're talking about "conservation gone wrong", or something like that, Dutchy?

@msolga,
Indeed, this town is surrounded by thousands of hectares of socalled kerosene shrub which burns like anything. After previous fires (they've had 4 in five years) the Mayor has advocated to bulldoze a very wide firebreak (of at least several hundred meters) around the town but upto now the Greenies have prevented this from happening. Interested to see what is going to happen now.

@Dutchy,
Sigh. This stuff gets very tricky. I do understand what you're saying, Dutchy. But at the opposite end, you could end up with quite denuded landscapes in some of the known fire zones. Which then create a different set of problems. I don't know what the answer is. Does any form of annual burning off/clearing occur there?

@msolga,
I don't know if they do annual burning off etc as I only visit them 3 or 4 times a year, and have never taken any notice. I did notice however that their SES headquarters had the usual clearance and firebreaks around their building but was also gutted, firebreaks obviously inadequate. Yet properties amongst the shrub with clearances of up to 200 metres wide were saved, the grass ofcourse was all black and the surrounding shrub burnt down but the homes were saved, which proved to me, make the firebreaks sufficiently wide and you haved a better chance of surviving. I'm all for preservation, don't get me wrong on that point, but here (Pt.Lincon) common sense must prevail in my view.

Nite, nite msolga I'm off to bed.

@Dutchy,
Sorry, Dutchy. I didn't see this last night. I thought you'd left.

Can of worms, isn't it? To clear or not clear? A lot of to-ing & fro-ing & quite heated argument going on about this now, in country Victoria, following last summer's horrors.

Anyway, I'll take this opportunity to wish you a really good day today.

Gorgeous mild & sunny day here! Think I'll get out there! Smile
