@Izzie,
Yes, hilarious, Izzie!
I was encouraged to join in a few times (after posting my appreciation), but sadly I don't have the "it" required to be convincing in the fine art of Hebonics.

@msolga,
yes, our national broadcaster showed the tv shows, and a non comercial provincial station showed the movies

it's weird, living so close to the american border there were lots of rules about broadcast regulations, this meant that the national broadcaster, which showed american soaps and game shows in parts of the country were american broadcast signals were not available, couldn't show the shows in our area, they substituted them with episodes of a country practice and the flying doctors (forgot to mention that one), in the afternoon, and brit sitcoms and mother and son in the evening (7 - 8 pm)

this was about ten years ago, but i loved the shows and still have some on video tape

@djjd62,
Then I hereby declare you an honorary Australian, djjd! Very Happy

I can well understand the need to protect the Canadian film & tv industry from too many US imports. You'd be swamped, otherwise!

Gotta run now. I have an appointment on the other side of the city at 1 pm & must make myself presentable. As if that's remotely possible, in this heat! I doubt it. Wink

Cheers till later, all.

my faves have to be Eric Morecombe and Ernie Wise.

Brilliant, clever stuff, isn't it, Hamburger?

I have lost track of how many re-uns of re-uns the ABC has run here! (Ditto Fawlty Towers. I think I know every episode off by heart.) The thing about Yes, Minister: it remains spot-on, despite being made so many years ago!
