That 44 mag is nice, but I think it'd be a bit too powerful for me.
Looks like it would have a hell of a kick.

Thay DO, but u can fire .44 special from them, for a less punitive recoil.
The weight of a .44 magnum rated revolver will help to absorb some recoil.
Some of them are more compact.

Frequent practice at the gunnery range gets u accustomed to the recoil.

Only for a very lite load; maybe .22 ( which have poor stopping power ).
I think those things are dangerous.

Thay make them in .44 for folks who like carpal tunnel syndrome.
I had a law clerk who got bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome just from typing on an IBM typewriter,
let alone having a .44 Derringer go off in your palm.

I agree. I have a Davis Derringer (.32) which is safe enough, I guess, if you do everything right. Since that doesn't always happen under stress, it's possible to load two cartridges, close the action, and have one of the firing pins wipe across the primer of one cartridge. Won't happen on half cock, but I don't like the design.

I own a .44 magnum Ruger SuperBlackhawk,
but I don 't consider it a defensive handgun ( except for animals ),
unless loaded with .44 special.

I bought it as an artifact of Americana.

In my opinion, for stopping power,
the best way to go is hollowpointed .44 special.

Now see, this is where I get lost at...and its the choice of ammo to pick from, what does exactly this or that....

I deer hunt with a Remington Bolt Action 30-06, I like 180 grain for some reason of the other, and usually go with whatever tip I can find...

~~~~~~~IS women, can I have the pretty ones? :wink:
I'm thinking about it. I messed up my arm a bit on my last job pushing it too hard and it's never been the same since.
It's fine other than the fact that I lost some power in that arm, but I'm gonna start hitting the weights again to see if I can't strengthen it up some.
I normally would have been like MMS and would have enjoyed something with some kick (for some reason), but I'm not sure the arm could handle it anymore.
That ladysmith looks like it would be very easy to handle and I like the look of it.
HA! For some strange sorted reason, I've always like big guns...and as bad as I hate to say this, but the bigger the better...lol
I'll never forget my daddy sighting in his 30-06 one sunny afternoon, the next thing I remember seeing was blood streaking down the middle of his nose where he'd crawled up on the scope. It dotted him a good one.......
Been toting one ever since........never have been dotted, but know its coming one day when I get all excited.......lol
My information on this subject comes from reading the body of literature
applicable thereto, and from experience with some of the different ammo.
Many gunnery ranges will rent u the whole display case,
for a modest consideration, and the cost of the ammo.
I remember when we use to go target practice. I always said I'd have a big gun some day. I grew up in the Boston area and people thought I was nuts Laughing
Yup, I'm a "bigger the better" girl too Cool
The heaviest handgun I 've used is .44 magnum.
I 've heard that the .50 caliber is 3 times more powerful.
Anyway, for defensive purposes, u need to decide what u want the ammo to DO.
For sure, a .44 magnum is likely to overpenetrate.
The exit wound will be much larger than the entrance wound,
promoting exsanguination; ( i.e., your target may die of bloodloss the next day ),
however, every footpound of energy that your slug carries away
after it overpenetrates the target is WASTED,
and dangerous to whatever it hits, somewhere in America.
There is a greater chance that the slower .44 special will remain
within the target ( from which u r defending yourself ),
especially with the hollowpoints expanding, to put the brakes on,
thus DISCHARGING THE MAXIMUM MUZZLE ENERGY INTO THE TARGET
and achieving optimal stopping power.
