Sometimes in the AM, I'm stopped in traffic because of the light ahead, and I peep in through the wrought iron fence at that particular statue....
In 1991, I lived in Austin briefly with my ex-husband
I was walking down Robert E. Lee one day and spied it from across the street. I was drawn over there, and I stood there with my head leaning against the iron rails, looking at it and crying.
It reminded me of my current husband and myself. I'd been with him before briefly marrying someone else (in a moment of insanity).
I felt so utterly destitute, knowing what I'd given up.
Now, I look at it and feel quite joyous and redeemed.
