Hey Edgar, how's your weather in your area? Any more troubles?

Right now, we are into our winter rains and it's quite soggy. High winds expected later tonight.

Say, for craft ideas, do you make any of those Christmas stand-up displays people put in their yards during that time of the year? They seem quite popular and don't appear to be ultra hard to make.

@Reyn,
I used to make plywood cutouts for Christmas. At first, there was good money in it. Then, four thousand and sixty seven guys got the notion to do the same thing. I quit making money.

The weather here is very nice today, but rain is movin in for the next two or three days, they say.

@edgarblythe,
Edgar, I would value your opinion here.

Check out the comments made on my thread HERE and let me know if my two follow-up posts was an over-reaction, or not, knowing the history in this situation.

I made a point of making my follow-up posts measured and not inflammatory.

Here is a handy example of one of my plywood figures. It was about six feet tall as I remember.

I dunno, Edgar. Does his follow-up post on that same thread
HERE sound like a joke to you? It just makes him sound smug. I still claim his comments are mean-spirited and not appreciated. And he was certainly lying about the fact that he did not include you in his previous name-calling post.

I make a point of never making personal attacks. If Mr. Farmerman doesn't like my posts, nobody is arm-twisting him to read them, are they? As far as I know, it's not a requirement that all posts must be read and liked on this forum. Why doesn't he just leave well enough alone? I don't go to his posts and name call, etc.

Edgar, that's a nice piece of work. The details are very good!

@Reyn,
Will you please sttle down? As one who is attempting to be a humor writer, you need to be able to handle literary criticism like "lying sack of ****" with more of a dispassionate , technical interest.

Edgar is the actual originatorof the fake story . His were alwasys so good that , at first, I admit that I actually belived a few. Thats what you should be emulating, and you shouldnt be dwelling on my constructive criticism as anything other than that.

Keep writing, Ill keep reading, however might I say that edgar has never posted a Universal disclaimer and thats funnier because, every so often, some of his posts are confused with the ONION, and guys like McG or Ticmaya get strung up like in a spider web of humor.

Just trying to view this as a customer, not as a member of the fmily where noone disagrees with anyone for fear theyd hurt everybody's feelings.

Most of my family avoids me anyway.

@Reyn,
Why you , in your "horny bull" story, you posted a picture of JOE PATERNO-coach of the PEnn State , Nittany Lions, arguably the best college fooball team in the US this year.
When you post religious pictures and scorn them with sexually explicit material , you deserve the names you Canajun Weasel.

That's okay, Edgar. I'm done. I don't intend to do any more H.I. stories, or attempt (however lamely) try to be humourous. Apparently, I'm supposed to emulate you, as you are king.

None of this is worth it.

Okay, so let's move onto something a heckuva lot more interesting.

So, I guess the secret is to try and find some projects that are a bit more unique, but still have possibilities of making sales?

Tell me a bit about some of the smaller items (other than furniture) you've made in the past with the idea of trying to sell them.

@Reyn,
I have made small furniture with weathered cedar. One item I could move as fast as I made them were weathered cedar pieces cut in the shape of the state of Texas. I used a road map for my pattern. Then glued a small shelf in the middle and glued small things, such as flowers, and what ever seemed interesting on the shelf. I don't recall how much my friends and I charged for those (I had a couple of people with me, who proved to be unstable). The last time I did this, I was searching for the perfect weathered cowboy boot shape to make with the cedar. Never found one I liked. I didn't have an extensive line going, because I had to leave off to make a living.

So, basicly stuff that would sell all year round. I guess seasonal items can be a tough market?

@edgarblythe,
For a time, I made cutouts of well known cartoon characters, such as Donald Duck, and sold them to primarily day care centers. Painted and installed a few signs, but I was never comfortable doing that. The customers nit pick you to death. A man once called and asked if my brother and I would give a price to make a sign to put on a day care. It was to be so many inches high, and eight feet long. We made a deal with the owner - a different person - and my brother made up a cartoon train, the cars and engine being in seperate components. It was a work of art. The lady paid for it, but she was unhappy because the sign was not about nine and a half feet long. Gave us a bitter time over it. We gave up on signs.

Another customer had me make several things for her for Christmas yard decorations. I was proud of the two foot high kiddy building blocks (ABC blocks, some call them). She won a neighborhood prize with my stuff.

@edgarblythe,
Hey, that's great! If I come across any potential ideas, I'll put them to you to see what you think. Obviously, it should not cost too much to make, so the selling price isn't too high.

And, hopefully 15 million guys in their garages aren't making it already. Laughing

@Reyn,
Patterns and material are the first order of the day. Then, tools. I can stockpile until the time is right for selling.
