60 is a milestone. I couldn't ignore the fact. But, I have had eight years to get used to it.

@ossobuco,
Yes, I've not really been looking forward to this date at all. I'm not really sure how I feel about getting older in general, but 60 does sound old, doesn't it?

I guess, like you say, it depends what's going on in one's life at the moment, if there are problems. They never take a holiday, do they?

I must lead at least a semi charmed life. Today, I checked the breaker to the outside lights of one of the apartment buildings. I saw right away it was sparking. I clicked it off and started to pull the top loose. It was stuck. So, I put the pliers on there and tugged. The wires shorted out. It was like an explosion. Miraculously, it would seem, I stepped away with a mild burn to my wrist and the smell of singed hand and arm hair. Calmly walked into the office and informed the boss we need a contractor. Went about my business. I was so cool, I can hardly believe it.

Wow, am just now catching up on this thread. Edgar! Geezus, what'cha doing, buddy? I hope those pliers had insulated handles.

@edgarblythe,
Yeah, I suppose, but I have a bit of feeling of depression accompanying this birthday.

Of course, developing a cold yesterday (in April, would you believe!) doesn't help.

@edgarblythe,
Sounds like the place is a fire trap just waiting to happen.

The owners don't see anything wrong with noticeable sparks coming from an electric panel that are visible to a passerby?

@edgarblythe,
Could the refrigerators be having trouble with condensation? Is the apartment temperature unusually cold or warm?

Is there some kind of heat source in the floor area that could be interfering with the refrigerator motors and sensors?

@Butrflynet,
The sparks were not noticeable, until the breaker box had been opened. Even then, the sparks were only noticeable if one happened to be looking for them. I was investigating, because the exterior lights had failed to come on. It was lucky I used the pliers, because they moved my fingers about three inches further away from the sparks and fire.

@Butrflynet,
It is my opinion that the resident does not know how to load the food in the refrigerator. The new models that they sell to apartments have a more sensitive air circulation system. Once you block the intake vents, which is the more common error residents make, and even after you thaw it out, the refrigerator can continue icing, until it has time to thoroughly dry out. This resident went through three and is on the fourth. These same refrigerators have been moved to other apartments and they work just fine.

@edgarblythe,
A whole lot of things were lined up on the lucky side that day.

Okay, here's the big question. Did you tell the wife about it or keep it to yourself? Shocked :::runs:::

I told her. It was amazing how calm I was throughout the ordeal. I walked away from the explosion as if nothing were amiss. Went in the office and nearly had the story finished before the manager grasped the importance of the incident.

@edgarblythe,
They need to give you a bonus for catching the problem before it burned the place down!

@Butrflynet,
Are you folks getting much smoke coming in from the New Mexico/West Texas wildfires or are you too far south for that?

@Butrflynet,
Truthfully, the chance it would burn down the place was pretty remote.

After I told you about the benefits of colloidal silver. I have not had a cold or the flue since I began using it.
