BTW, Powell claims the US has 12 allies to fight Iraq in a war now. If we wait, we'll have 112 allies. Waiting is so much better. c.i.

We can wait 4 more weeks----political speak is designed to keep the enemy off balance.

Yeah, but the problem is, Bush's slipshod handling of this has kept all his dang friends off balance, as well.

I guess this post would go here.

Did anyone see the footage this morning of a young Arab-looking man, who blocked the UN convoy, jumped in and begged in Arabic (I presume), "Save me, save me."

He clutched a notebook to his chest.

The UN inspectors sat there, and allowed this man to be dragged out.

Wonder what this guiy is doing now?

Why didn't the UN people at least try to keep the guy safe. until someone could be brought to the scene to work out the legalities of defection for this guy.

Super----this would be enough for you------what about our Friends(the Frogs) and anyone else who just wants to present obstacles?

Also He will never kick the inspectors out as long as our troops are there ------ just how long do you want to wait?

1. Until the UN inspectors find WMD, or 2. Saddam attacks another country. c.i.

Just looks to me like the inspectors sealed this guy's death warrant.

This could have been the smoking gun---too late now. Is it any wonder they won't trust us or the UN.

It's a COMMENT, timber, an "obiter dictum".
"In a comment you voice your opinion on a certain situation, event, person, behaviour, attitude or a statement made by somebody else" I've learnt more than thirty years back at school. This wasn't changed during my university courses in journalism and is still done in European media and taught at universities.

Lash, I doubt the UN inspectors had any legal way of doing otherwise, but don't know that for a fact. They certainly have no illegal options.

I agree with perception. The notebook clutched to his chest and the desperation on his face....

Couldn't any citizen from another country, UN or not, at least have stood there and asked for some type of help? Anyway, moot point,.. But with the notebook, it seems this guy should have at least been seperated from the guards trying to drag him away, and the situation investigated there on the spot.

Bet the Inspectors were afraid gunfire would erupt.

This goes far in showing the ineptitude of the investigation. Yes, I think the smoking gun evidence may be in the hands of Saddam today.

Wonder if Blix will have the nerve to ask to see this guy? Not that he will ever be seen again....

The "Proper" thing to have done would have been to assume shared custody of the individual on the spot, pending further immediate and impartial investigation of the matter. I have no doubt The Inspectors were conscious of that, but were also aware they were seriously outgunned and in a bad part of town, so to speak. It is certainly illustrative of the failure of The Inspection Approach.

The poor fellow in question doubtless has no further say or interest in the matter. I might hope it causes The Inspectors involved sleepless nights for the remainder of their natural lives. I also suppose, other than that, it is pretty much over with. Nobody is going to be much inclined to pursue it at all.

Hey---big bird----a ways back did you actually bet against Gruden?

You know of course that he built the team now in Oakland and is the closest thing to a real football guru that ever existed.

perception, do you feel outrage has not been indicated by the folks who have been responding here to that particular incident? I haven't noticed anyone condoning or dismissing it, and certainly you can't fault someone's position if that position hasn't ben stated. I don't think anyone "Approves" of the blunder. As for Willie's pants, where and with whom he unzipped them is really irrelevant inthis discussion, anyway. That's already had enough of its own discussion to more than satisfy my interest, as has had a long while. Could be worth a thread on its own, but I suspect that issue is as dead as the would-be defector.
