Nobody missed anything. Got too tedious, even for a kvetch like me.

Dealing with the advancing side effects of radiation. Very unpleasant.

Made more chicken soup tonight. This time with carrots.

@Roberta,
Even I, thousands of miles away, knew you have asthma and emphysema. Charts, the charts are unfilled.

I had a slight version of this at a UNM clinic, when my new breast cancer specialist told me I didn't have invasive ca. He hadn't read far enough. As in: "can't you read?"
Worst breast exam ever. I don't presently worry about that exact thing, but that was sloppy reading of a very good surgeon's notes. Topped off by the lamest mammo ever (of many.)

It's like you have to stay awake to defend your self and your med records.

Went into the hospital with a job almost done. Couldn't finish it. Deadlines. I finished the chapter I was working on--almost two weeks late. The editor got someone else to do the last chapter and the appendixes.

No other work now. Not sure I could do it if I had it. But I'd try.

@Roberta,
Could this at least be a good thing in terms of getting Medicare and other types of assistance? That you can't work?

@sozobe,
I'm too young for Medicare. I'm applying for Medicaid but won't be approved. I'm not disabled. Applied for disability and was rejected. I can work. There just isn't any work around. And I wouldn't be surprised if the people I usually work for are a little reluctant to assign me something.

@Roberta,
Sorry, Medicaid.

Why won't you be approved?

If the people who you usually work for are reluctant to assign you something, that's pertinent right there.

You either can work -- in which case you're bringing in money -- or you can't work -- in which case you are eligible for various safety nets.

I think I've said this before but part of what I used to do professionally was advocate for people who had applied for SSI or SSDI. It really seemed like the default response was rejection, and then the people who raised a stink once rejected got the second look.

I know stink-raising takes energy though.

(You have a social worker tending to this stuff, right?)

@sozobe,
I won't be approved because I make too much money. I have to apply because it's required by the hospital. I was admitted without insurance.

Yes, I have a social worker. And I met with three at the hospital. None at the hospital believe I'll be approved. But apply I will. In the process now.

According to my disability case, I'm able to work. It didn't seem relevant that work is scarce. If I have it, I can do it. My social worker met with several experts on this, They agree that I don't have a case.

BTW, soz. I've been trying to find your e-mail address. No luck.

Hasn't your income changed, though?

I get what you're saying about the rest of it. Phooey.

Glad you have a social worker anyway.

Ah, just saw the edit. I'll send you an email...

@sozobe,
Yes, my income has changed, but it's still too high for Medicaid. However, I'll know for sure after I submit the application and see what the Medicaid guy has to say.
