Miller, When I was able to walk, I loved walking in New York. I spent most of yesterday navigating a large NY hospital.

Deb, I'm back from the second run. Noddy is right. The surgery is Monday.

Noddy, Today was not registration. Nobody bothered to check whether I had a blood test--as I sat around for hours yesterday. At four o'clock, it occurred to somebody that I would need one before the operation. The blood testing department closes up shop at 3:45. Hence the return. But I would have had to return anyway. They mistakenly kept my hospital card. Can't get anything or do anything without it. I thought it might be lost, so I arranged for another one. They found the missing one. Now I have two.

When I went to get the missing card, I ran into the nurse I saw yesterday. She suggested I get another EKG. If I hadn't had to go back for the card, this would never have come up. Got the EKG. Got the blood test. Have two cards--a green and a red.

Did a bit of grocery shopping. I will spend tomorrow doing absolutely nothing. I'll do laundry and a bit of cleaning on the weekend.

I have to be at the hospital on Monday at 7 a.m. I could be operated on any time during the day. All surgery patients are told to come in at seven. Is this a way to run a hospital? Oy.

Roberta--

Will this be drive-by surgery or will you spend the night?

If you were a challenging case, the surgeon would want to slice and dice first thing in the morning when he--and the surgical team--were fresh.

Or, perhaps, the surgeons will meet and 7:15 a.m. and amble up and down around the pre-surgical beds to decide who does what and in what order.

Take a book. Take two books.

One can never have too many Hospital Cards. One can easily have too many hospital visits, but overlapping paperwork is a boon and a blessing.

Hold your dominion.

Noddy, At the very least I'll be there overnight. There's a chance I'll be there two nights.

Don't know how decisions are made or who gets to go first. I'll be unconscious for a couple of hours. I'm a challenge because I have breathing issues. Maybe I won't have to sit around all day.

Holding my dominion as best I can.

Roberta--

With luck your breathing troubles will get you to the front of the line. Anesthesiologists get votes, too.

I'm a firm believer that physical flaws deserve all possible perks.

Had a nightmare. Did I know that the grim reaper, that mythic/cliche figure has entered my subconscious? Now I do. Noivous.

Got seven loads of laundry done yesterday. Some chores today. Noivous.

Contacted my cousin (next of kin) and told him he might have to make a pull-the-plug decision. Told him not to do anything rash. "Make sure there's no chance of recovery," I said. He said he's make me a chocolate malted and let the aroma waft under my nose. If I didn't wake up, he'd disconnect my life support. I said that sounded good to me. Noivous.

Thanks to everyone who's posted for the good thoughts and stroking. I needed that, which is why I started this thread. You da best. But noivous anyway.

JPB, I'll sit, but it won't be quietly. Even under the best of circumstances, I ain't that quiet--inside or out.

Noddy, I'm holding, kid, I'm holding.

osso, Thanks.

Deb, I like my cousin too. Bunny, I haven't moved in decades. Don't know what you mean. If you wanna call me, give it a shot. Be warned that the ringer on my phone is never on. I don't know a call is coming in until the message starts. So make it a long message, cuz I need time to get to the phone. I expect that I'll need more than the usual amount of time, so talk slow.

Lol! I would love to speak to you at home, but last time I rang you when you were in the hospital!

The first call they hung up on me, because I had to unravel the very strong accent of the person who answered the phone, and responded too slowly.

The next time, they got me through to the ward you'd been in, but they said they'd moved you.

So you are taking reading material for the wait.. or aren't you? (This is me putting my needs onto you... I hate three year old People magazines.)
And I don't like to just sit there waiting for my name. Is a friend going with you?

Taking a book of NYTimes crosswords. Don't think I'll be able to concentrate on reading. Don't have nuttin' here to read anyway. I let my magazine subscriptions lapse, and I don't buy books anymore.

Yes, a friend (Phyllis) will go with me and wait. She's also the one who'll be taking me home.
