@roger,
Quote:You find that reassuring?
Actually, roger, I was really startled when he mentioned Turbo Tax during his confirmation hearings. My first reaction was, "Can't he afford an accountant?"
What wasn't so reassuring was the fact that, during his confirmation hearings, he was trying to explain something questionable in his tax return by blaming it on an error in Turbo Tax. So Turbo Tax got a great plug from him, in terms of free publicity, but it was sort of a mixed blessing.
But, yes, it was hearing Geithner mention that he used Turbo Tax that did finally convince me that it probably wasn't inferior to using an accountant--it did reassure me on that score. The man was about to become the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, he could well afford an accountant, a top-notch accountant, yet he chose to use Turbo Tax, and for returns that were likely considerably more complicated than mine. I'd had friends who touted Turbo Tax to me for years, but it really was Geithner who made me seriously consider using it. If he felt confident using it, why shouldn't I?
So, that's honestly why I tried it, and I loved it, and I've been using it ever since.
