If you want to know the rule:

Adjectives should be used in singular form. e.g. "It is a two-car garage." In your example, "toy" is describing "collection".

Thanks. Some of the members are getting me more confused. Being a non-native speaker, I cannot undestand their intentions.

Just to confuse the issue-

My collection of toys

The collective noun for parliamentarians is a Lie of parliamentarians not a collection. Then theres a parliament of owls

Ahhh Yoong,

We answered you question... and now we are playing with language a bit. Playing with language is a fine way to learn more about anything. But, you can ignore us if you like.

However the completely serious answer to your question is:

"I have a toy collection" - correct.
"I have a toys collection" -wrong
"I have a collection of toys" - also correct.
"I have a collection toys" -wrong

In the first correct example, toy acts as an adjective which modifies the noun "collection". It says what type of collection it is.

In the third example, "toys" is a noun (and there are more than one toy so it is plural). There is a collection of some number of object... which happen to be toys.

It is just two different correct ways to say pretty much the same thing.

That's what I want. The jokes are confusing me. Maybe I've not enough sense of humour.
