With a single sentence in a news release, a slaying in Prince William County gained high-profile treatment this week, not because of how the crime was committed, but because of who police say did it:
a twice-deported illegal immigrant.
What was not mentioned before -- a suspect's legal status -- is now un-ignorable in a county that is leading the charge against illegal immigration.

The problem is that deportation is
only BRIEFLY effective.
The deportee can and ofen
will turn right around and re-invade us;
i.e., deportation is NOT dissuasive against recidivism.
In order to be effective,
we need to do SOMETHING to them that is
sufficiently unpleasant
as to dissuade them from recidivating; maybe taking their fingerprints
and DNA and threatening them with
death, might work;
or threatening them with being shot on sight, as thay jump or swim across the border.
