All I can add is my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I can personally vouch for the fact that staying in Houston was no picnic, either.
That's a tough row they'd had to hoe. Sorry to hear it.
I'm sorry that your family is going through such a rough time.

It damn sure wasn't. Their daughter and her husband found jobs and rented a house and my cousin and his wife were forced to move in with them and their new baby. To a man like my cousin, used to being in charge, it was a disgrace.
eoe, I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with more sad news.
I am so sorry for the troubles your family is going through.
I wish them better days ahead.
It's a reminder to us all that none of us are protected.

It can all be snatched away in a heartbeat. But you're right Joe. Life is indeed good. The best game in town.

I would be very interested if anyone is doing a study concerning the rates of serious disease (especially cancer) that has befallen people who have undergone extremely serious stress, like that your family suffered under Katrina.
There have been studies correlating stress and serious disease, Phoenix. I don't have time to track them down now but I'll do so when I get a chance and put them in a different thread.
Since Katrina, I've often wondered about the mental health of the 1000's of children who were forced to endure the flooding, death all around them, the madness at the Superdome, the fear and panic of that week after the hurricane. How are the babies doing? Will life ever be normal for them again, those that are still sweltering as we speak in sardine can trailers, families ripped apart and strewn all over?
The general health of those in the FEMA trailers is a major concern. When we were down there in April there were many stories of acute and chronic respiratory illness coming from the formaldehyde given off by the trailers themselves. It seems that they were only ever intended for short term use (a few weeks or a couple months) and sitting month after month, now years, in the strong sun and heat has caused the insulation(?) or some other component in the construction to give off formaldehyde.
And that is just one aspect for one group of those affected by Katrina. The social and psychological aspects of the aftermath won't be fully understood for decades, if ever.
She passed away this evening at 6:30.

You have my deepest sympathies!
Me too.
He's taking her back home to New Orleans.
My heartfelt condolences to the family, and especially to her husband.
What a sad, sad story. I am so sorry eoe for you and your relatives.
My sympathies to all.
