Many of us embrace Daishonin’s Buddhism because we encountered various problems and difficulties in our lives. For many of us, after receiving Gojukai, we find that what we suffered from were solved. Besides receiving many benefits, we can feel that the Gohonzon is always protecting us.

I'd use
was. "What we suffered from," can be taken as a singular group.
we find that (the thing) we suffered from was solved.
we find that (the things) we suffered from were solved.
He did talk about various problems and difficulties. (plural)
