A great clip. Does anyone here know what type round and fusing is used when heavy naval guns are used as anti aircraft weapons?

Don't know. The Yamato was made to be sufficiently larger than anything which had to get through the Panama Canal to guarantee it would win but it's not clear it could have beaten the Iowa or Missouri in a one on one fight since the American fire control was more sophisticated. The Americans nonetheless never allowed the test to occur and took the two super battleships out with air power.

A dispassionate account of the final hours of the Yamoto was written by a young ensign who survived. It was suppressed by the American authorities for many years after the war.

I have a copy of the book but dammit cant find it.

Just one point, they were on a suicide mission and knew it. They didnt have enough fuel to get back to Japan.
