What about the costs of years of COPD for the smokers and diabetes for the obese?
Neither of those conditions are cheap.
Errrr.... no.
"Obese people had the most diabetes, and healthy people had the most strokes. Ultimately, the thin and healthy group cost the most, about $417,000, from age 20 on.
The cost of care for obese people was $371,000, and for smokers, about $326,000."
They looked at the cost of treating people for any/all illnesses in the 3 different groups starting at the age of 20 until death. Diabetes is specifically stated as included. I presume that at least some people within the study may have had COPD even though they didn't specify it in the article.
