He was looking for some old cartridges which gamekeepers used in their shotguns to hunt for game.

Is 'in' the correct preposition, is the sentence fine or should it be rephrased?

Many thanks.

I could see a preference for using 'on'. On is slightly better, but no need to rephrase.

I would change it to, "The son of a bitch wanted to kill something and he searched for anything resembling a bullet which he could place into the chamber of his gun. He was drunk -- drunk and horny -- he figured if he killed something real quick like and handed it to the bitch by the stream, well, then he might get some action, but, for now, the most important thing wast to secure the bullets.

Try that.

Is this a test?

Huh?
I am by no means an English expert but I think "in" is correct.

oops, I reread your sentence and I'm mistaken. I thought it was about the gun sight (not cartridge). My error. 'In' is a fine choice.

I thought we were friends, ragman. But then you used that clever twist of the language and left me speechless. And embarrassed.

I will never.... ever.... forgive you for this.
