The amounts of apples are three times as much as peaches.

Does it mean that 1 apple=3 pears or 3 apples= 1 pear ?

This appears like a maths question but it is also the interpretation of the sentence.

Could somebody please provide me with the answer?

Thank you very much.

In the first place, it is crap English.

"The amounts of apples are three times as much as peaches."

should read:

"The amount of apples is three times as much as the amount of peaches."

Apples and peaches are both unitary things--i.e., they are separate items which can be counted. So, the best way to write this would be:

"The number of apples is three times as many as the number of peaches."

That means there are three apples to each peach, or to put it in the way you did, 3 apples=1 peach.

The number of apples is three times more than the number of peaches

Do both sentences have the same meaning? Or does the second sentence mean that there are 4 times more apples than peaches?

Thank you very much for your guidance.

Best wishes
