I doubt I've ever said that.

Is 'ever' correctly used? I was taught that 'ever' should never be used in a positive sentence,

For example, "Has your cat ever caught any mice?"
The answer: "Yes it has ever caught mice." (incorrect)
Correct ans"Yes it has caught mice."

Yes, it's used correctly.

There's nothing negative about the word ever in general usage.

"The first time ever I saw your face" is an appropriate phrase.
