Are sentences correct?

We have pledged to the Gohonzon to achieve a total membership of 5000 by 2009 in conjunction with the celebration of the 750th anniversary of the submission of ?'Rissho-Ankoku-Ron'.

We will not be able to achieve the objective if we do not put in enough effort or take any constructive action to reach the target.

Are there any errors in the sentences. Is 'reach the target' correctly used? Is 'reach' the correct verb or is there any other suitable verb?

Many thanks.

As a Soka Gakkai member I might differ with your figures but the sentence structure appears to be correct. Are you a Nichiren Buddhist also? What branch?

Thanks for your assistance.

You're right. I'm a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist. Formerly I was from Soka Gakkai. I switched because I found no priests in SG. When I went to NS, there were two priests there.

Best wishes

I remained with the Gakkai because the priesthood had deviated from the teachings of Nichiren. But best wishes to you also!

"Reach the target" is correct. You can also say "meet the target", but "reach" is better here.
