Years ago I wrote a few songs after becoming single again when my first marriage to my highschool sweetheart ended. Haven't written but one or two since, though I am in my third single status.

BROKEN HEART SURGERY

You need this
You don't need this
Tell me something cruel but true
Love escapes on wings of doubt
And all I do is live without

You ponder
You start to wander
Now you're free to spin your web
Tunnel vision has closed the door
And all I do is beg for more

(chorus)
Am I no longer welcome in your life?
You know, I feel like I'm under the knife
I'll give you some time
If you cut me some slack
When you take the knife out of my back

You're stinging
You're destroying
Failing years can take their toll
Your marching chimes the mood of the day
And all I do is sit and pray

You resist
You don't resist it
Change is ominous in our world
Trying times increase with pain
And all I do is curse the strain

(Chorus)

You ebb but
You won't flow
The years go by my darling one
No common ground from sea to sea
And all I do is wait patiently

You know
You don't know it
Time, it blurs and wounds decay
Happiness is plagued with tears
And all I do is wish you were here

(Chorus)

FUTURE MEMORIES

I remember your young face
And your young hair
I remember reaching out
And you were always there

I remember your young smile
And your young eyes
I remember looking in them
And feeling satisfied

I remember our young dreams
And our young schemes
I remember telling the world
We were a team

(Chorus)
Those days are gone
And it's so wrong, so wrong
We waited so long

I remember young summer days
And young angry ways
I remember going through
That awkward phase

I remember things you gave
And things we saved
I remember us reveling
in those coital raves

I remember your young hands
And your soft touch
I remember holding them
and making a stand

(Chorus)
Those days are gone
And it's so wrong, so wrong
We waited so long

Bridge:
Those days are gone and we can't bring them back
Those days are gone and we can't bring them back
Just unrealistic lore
Just outside times door

Very nice Brand X. Most of our inspiration comes to us when we are happy or sad. I think the best lyrics written are inspired when someone has lost something, because it comes from their heart.

These are beautiful. SP, I hope you don't remain halfway to the sun. I would love to see you finish it and have it published. (How are you doing with your creative pursuits?)
Brand X, broken hearts always make us want to hear more. I wonder why, when it is so sad? Do you want to continue writing?

Thanks all! I don't know why we have to heal in this manner, it just pours out though. In writing we can expel our pain through words, and it's completely selfish in a way. We can say what we want and don't have to recieve answers from anyone about it that might be something we don't want to hear. On the other hand, there are healing answers in it for ourselves that can be shared by others.

I write the words and music simultaneously on guitar, and I don't play much anymore so no songs have been born recently. This forum has made get interested again so maybe I'll tune up!

PAST TO PRESENT

Come into my garden
With your arms open wide
If you need some help, dear
You need a place to hide
I know how you feel
I know how it feels
When you need some arms around you
Don't need to be alone
There's no time like the present
No, there's no time like the present
And there'll be no time like the past

Come into my garden
Come on in my friend
If you need some healing
Can we start to mend
You know how I feel
You know how it feels
I need your arms around me
Don't need to be alone
There's no time like the present
No, there's no time like the present
And there'll be no time like the past

Come into my garden
Without hendering pride
Face the fear of loving
Let our heart's collide
I know how you feel
You know how it feels
You need someone to hold you
Someone to call your own
There's no time like the present
No, there's no time like the present
And there'll be no time like the past

Wrote this in high school...still not entirely sure what it means, aside from the fact that I was horny for a troubled, elusive girl. Laughing

WIND AND WET ASPHALT

I waited for you down by the waterfall, a sprig of mistletoe in my hands.
When they shot down the walls around you, were you caught in the crossfire?
Everything meant so much to you always, and when you're faced with trouble, I know that you'll stand tall.
When the houselights finally came up, were you blinded?

Chorus:
Sitting drinking coffee at the corner store, just waiting for something to happen...
Blinded by the smoke from your cigarette, let's grin and bear it, and never wear our hooded masks.

Waving to you from a distant shore and sea, feeling close but 'oh so far away.'
When they thought you were treading water, were you drowning?
When they said "Now give us a smile", were you frowning?

Chorus:
Sitting on a park bench in the pouring rain, just waiting for something to happen....
Taken by your words and by your sillouhette,
let's grin and bear it, and throw away our hooded pasts.

Bridge:
As the wheel turns, you might end up on the bottom,
but hey hey, we're alive today, and don't it make you smile?
When experience doesn't walk hand in hand with ecstasy,
Hey hey, don't give it away, 'cause don't it make you smile?

The sun it burned and the rain fell down upon my face. The weather here's just not the same without you.
When the birds fall from the heavens, will you be watching?

SECOND CHANCE

Look beyond this place
The sun is rising in the sky
Look beyond this face
There's a tear drop in my eye
Look beyond the past
I know it's hard the way time flies
Look beyond the fight
There's something here you must realize

Bridge:
It's not a waist of time
Look what we could find
Another place in time
Where you would be mine

(Chorus)
Second chance
Second chance

Look beyond your heart
The message sending is from your soul
Look beyond the start
There are many ways to reach the goal
Look beyond the fright
There's someone here that you still know
Look beyond the night
There's a light that shines in the afterglow

Bridge:
To show us a chance
To take a second glance
If your permission grants
We can start a new romance

(Chorus)
Second chance
Second chance

Since way back when there's always been one
One meant for the crowd, one meant for the gun
No matter how much they've given or done
Before you and I there's always been one

If it isn't the father then make it the son
But sooner or later there's gonna be one
You never can tell until it is done
Before you and I there's always been one

It doesn't matter what they're saying
Or what they're doing or your praying

Cause there's always been trying to make it OK
Who's given it all and been taken away
And just when you think the madness is done
Another one falls, cause there's always been one
Before you and I there's always been one

I'll offer up some more from the archives:

JULIA

I spent the day looking for a song
to tell me exactly how I felt about you
but those sad sick verses were all wrong,
so I sat down and penned these modest words:

Chorus:
Julia, you were my lover,
and nothing in this world can change that now,
but oh this melancholy gets me nowhere,
praying for the return of a fallen star.

I spent the night looking for a pair of eyes
to remind me of the ones that once gazed into mine,
and I fell for every face that resembled yours,
then stumbled home and spent the night alone.

(Chorus)

Bridge:
Julia, when you left me,
I payed my pennance in the bars where they once knew me well.
Now, when we meet, you'd think I was a stranger,
and not the boy who laid the world down at your feet.
So all I'm hanging on to is a fading memory
of diamonds and roses and you.

I'll spend my time looking for another
to fill the void that you have left,
and when I find her, you'll be the first to know,
and my fallen star will rise again.

(Chorus)

Pretty maudlin, IMO, but hey, I was young and freshly out of love.

What did happen on Dec. 8, 1980? I was only 10 and I'm Canadian.

Well Cavfancier, if you were only 10, you have an excuse.
The fact that your Canadian is irrelevant eh
Dec 8, 1980
NYC
John Lennon is shot outside the "Dakota"
April 3 1968
Martin Luther King is shot in Memphis Tennessee
June 5, 1968
Robert Kennedy is shot in Los Angeles
November 22, 1963
President Kennedy is shot in Dallas
And so the story goesÂ…
"one meant for the crowd
one meant for the gun"
Cheers
Ted
