I prefer you stay/ stayed.
Which word should I use?
Many thanks.
I what context?
Without knowing what it is you are trying to say, it is difficult to give you a reasonable answer.
Does "stay" mean "spent the night" somewhere?
Does it mean to remain while others leave?
There are a lot of things which "stay" can mean, including in the context of card games.
What are you referring to?
I prefer for you to stay.
I would prefer it if you stayed.

Sorry. Just to confirm: I prefer
for you to stay as you said or I
prefer you to stay
Neither no-one says that.
