Piercing...

I've had my ears pierced some two weeks ago now, and yesterday was completely convinced that my earrings were bust as they seemed to be stuck in my ears, I then managed to take one out clean it n put it back in no problem, I was advised to not change them for 4 weeks but being the impatient person that I am, surely if i can remove and clean the earring then surely I can change it? The new earrings I'll be replacing them with are 9ct White gold (not plated or anything). I need some advice as to whether or not I should do this... I mean I know people will say I shouldn't, but is there any actual medical reason not to?

P.s the Piercings are on the lower piece of the earlobe (the usual place for a piercing Razz).

I believe that the part of the earring that goes through your ear that you get when you pierce your ears, are somewhat thicker than in regular earrings. If you put in regular earrings before the piercing is completely healed, the pierce may grow in too narrow for you to take earrings in and out comfortably.

What's the big deal? Another couple of weeks won't make a difference in the scheme of things!

FYI, it is important to prevent infection in the healing piercings. Over the years, I have had my ears pierced at least four times. Each time, when I got the infection, I took out the earrings, and the hole closed up.

kk cool cool cheers for the swifty reply, and you're right 2 weeks is nothing. I was just unsure so figured I'd rather ask the question than go ahead and do it =-P. I suppose that makes sense really. Just someone told me the only reason for having these in for 4 weeks was because they were gold and gold doesnt infect your ear as easily, but the guy who told me that is a bit silly so nvm.

Anyway, cheers for the quick response, appreciate it.

Also I was told that should i get any infection, that the worst thing to do would be to take the earring out, as it makes any infection harder to treat? Maybe another myth lol.

You also dont want to change it for a heavier earring which will deform your earlobe.

As the skin is still open, the weight of a diffrent earring will cause your hole to not only get smaller, but grow longer.

Nope- As I have said, I have had piercings close on me four times. That was years ago, and I have had my present piercings for many years. If a piercing looks infected, wash the lobe with alcohol or peroxide, and smear a little triple antibiotic ointment on it. If it gets VERY infected, (very red and swollen) I suspect that it would be better to take the earring out, let the darn thing heal, and start all over again.

It is not a bad idea to do the alcohol/antibiotic regimen even if the piercing looks ok.
