This is regarding the Silk Road between around 138BCE and 1350CE...
I wanted to know how China's relation was to the Silk Road... Where in China it really was.. why and who used it. This seemed like a very crucial point in history. What were their real motives? The impacts seemed huge on he development of Chinese culture and history, what do you think?
Well, I can't claim to know a lot about it, but I do know that it wasn't a single road, nor was silk the only commodity. Let's see what Wikipedia says ...
Quote:The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is an interconnected series of ancient trade routes through various regions of the Asian continent mainly connecting Chang'an (today's Xi'an) in China, with Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. It extends over 8,000 km (5,000 miles) on land and sea. Trade on the Silk Route was a significant factor in the development of the great civilizations of China, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Indian subcontinent, and Rome, and helped to lay the foundations for the modern world.
