Great news, boomer! It sounds great. It will be work and it will be an adjustment for all of you but it will be great in the end.

Oh Boomer, after having read the entire thread, I can hardly wait to see more pics while you are doing the renovations. The house really looks like a home rather than a show place. Love it.

The first couple of pages had me tearing up and all sentimental, but this has been a wonderful experience for all of you, even the tough parts.

Thank you everyone and especially you, Diane, for reminding me that I wanted to tell some stories about our move.

So I'll tell one now:

The garage archeology continued today. In the past when we've moved we threw things on a truck, loaded it and left. This is the first place we've ever lived where we had anything of value so I'm trying to pack with more care. I set up four piles: keep, charity, recycle, trash. The most valuable thing in the house joined me.

What's this?..... Darkroom equipment. Making a picture used to be kind of hard. Now it's easy. When you grow up you'll probably just be able to think up a picture and you're brain will do all the work..... Yeah, it is cool. <trash, recycle, charity, trash, trash, trash, recycle, keep> That? It's a safelight. My dad gave it to me. He had it in his darkroom and then I had it in mine..... I'm keeping it because I love it.

This?.... Let's see..... it's a note. It says "You were right, I was wrong. I'm sorry. Doug"..... I don't remember Doug who..... Really! I don't remember. <keep, even though I really don't remember>

These are letters from my two best friends ever in the world... <keep>

This is a college paper I wrote on the Epic of Gilgamesh... <keep>

This is a list of numbers... I don't know what they mean but it's the only thing I have with my dad's handwriting on it.... <keep>

Newspapers from 12-31-2001 and 1-1-2002, from 9-12-2001 and 9-13-2001.... <keep>

Letters from dad when he was my boyfriend.... Yes. He was too my boyfriend. Yes! I'm serious!......
.......
.......
He's still my boyfriend....
Is so..... is so..... IS. SO.... <keep>

Even with the circa 1960s safelight the Keeps have all fit in a small box, I have filled two jumbo trash bags, four sacks for recycling, and the back of my car is filled with stuff for charity.

One of the best things about my life is that I can now afford to be a gourmet about Keeps.

Wouldn't that have been 12/31/1999?

I'm sorry, I meant the last day of 2000 and the first day of 2001. I had to go back and reread.

It isn't 1999 because the calendar doesn't start on year 0. It goes from 1 BC to 1 AD. 1-1-01 was the first day of the new millenium.

I see, I wondered if that's what you meant. The whole Y2K furore happened Dec 1999/ Jan 2000, but I think you're right about the actual start to the millenium.

Anyway, evocative exchange there, love the boyfriend part.

Wow. That just about says it all, doesn't it.

I'm going to bed. A2K isn't gonna get any better than this tonight. Thanks, Boomer.

Yes dadpad. The deal is done. We should close on the house on August 15 and will probably move in about a week later -- after the roof is put on and the carpets are pulled up.

I'm almost as excited as my mom.
