Actually they can't. They would have to pay a penalty if indeed they
want to change the contractual agreement.

My guess is, they won't follow through once they realize that the problems
arising from that far outweigh the tax advantage they had hoped to get.

We only put down earnest money because they agreed to close on the 15th. The amount we had to put down was substantial -- too big for us to be able to void the contract. But if they default on the contract we get our money back.

I'd be wild if I wasn't in a place that I already like.

As I understand it, the realtor who "sold" us the house is pretty wild right now!

A penalty -- yes indeed. I think it has been confirmed that the penalty would be $130.00 per day for every day past the 15th and if we aren't in the house by the time school starts the whole deal is off.

Yeah, he probably spend the commission already Laughing

Don't worry, boomer, they'll go through with the deal.

Honestly, I'll be okay either way.

Funny thing -- Mo and I bought a little gift certificate for our garbage man since we knew it was right at the time for his baby to be born. We were going to give it to him today but he wasn't on the route. Yep. His baby was born.

This moving thread started with a gift to the garbage man and moving will (might) end with a gift to the garbage man.

Gifting the garbage man makes a nice little parenthesis around our move, don't you think?

We have a really good garbage man, he deserves a little tip now and then.

Mo gets up on Tuesdays and gets dressed immediately and sits on the porch because he has to go to "his job".

He does his grown up walk and deep voice talk and gets very serious on job day.

His job?

To ride down the block in the garbage truck.

Our garbage man stops and picks him up and lets him "drive" the garbage truck (did you know that garbage trucks have steering wheels on both sides?). Mo drives and watches the video monitor to make sure all the trash is out of the can. Then the garbage man drops him back off in front of the house.

It is the highlight of Mo's week.

We have a really good garbage man.

It really is sweet. You're such a considerate person, boomer.
Your entire neighborhood will be in mourning once (if) you leave.

Very cool about Mo's job, boomer.

Regarding the closing date... it's possible that they will let you take occupancy before the closing (and still pay you the daily penalty) rather than lose the sale. The contract would have to stipulate that you would be reimbursed for any improvements made to the house if they were to renege on the deal after you get the keys along with other things to cover both parties. The house next door to me was a very strange situation whereby the new owners took occupancy months before the closing and the sellers paid them to do it.

Ooooohhhh.

As tempting as my little fantasy was after reading JPB's post it looks like they're coming around now. Mr. B called to see what was going to be the best time to set up a meeting on the 15th. Soooooo okay.

Lucky is a good word to describe our life in this house. I've been thinking about the word since little k said Mo was lucky to get to ride in the garbage truck.

For sure he is.

I remember when we were trying to adopt Mo. Three of the five character references sent in were from people who live on this street.

Today a neighbor came over and replaced some roof shingles just so it would be "one less thing we have to worry about".

This is a great place. It will be hard to leave here.

We're ahead of schedule!

We signed papers yesterday morning. The seller's signed yesterday afternoon. We should have keys on Monday!

This house is almost packed and practically loaded leaving us with really just a few last minute things and clean up. We're hoping to be in the new house Saturday next. If I disappear for a few days you'll know why!

Mo is finally getting very excited about moving even though Neighbor's dog had 10 puppies a few days ago and Mo feels his puppy-unclehood slipping from his grasp. As puppy uncle, he's a neighborhood celebrity.

He got to see three of the puppies be born so he's decided that we're taking three puppies: two for him and one for me. Poor Mr. B walks around with his eyes glazed over, tremoring at the word puppy. Still, even he sneaks over to visit.

Crazy times.

Nope. Not there yet. Today they pick up the POD and tonight Mr. B brings home a big truck and tomorrow the moving help arrives to load all the big, heavy stuff. We'll spend tomorrow night in the new house but come back over here on Sunday for a big clean.

This week has been really crazy. Mr. B was on the injured list and then he got really sick. I think it's mostly stress but it has been pretty scary.

Still, I think we're good to get it all done quickly and easily from here. I hope so anyway. If our floors are finsihed over there..... today?.... maybe?.... please?

"Jack" is doing our floors. Mr. B knows floors. He knows all the floor people. Jack is the best so Jack does our floors. Jack is an artist. A perfectionsist. It shows.

But mostly Jack would rather be surfing. Or screwing. Or getting stoned.

Jack doesn't work on the same timetables as the rest of the world.

But Jack is the best so Jack is doing our floors.

Last weekend we went over to the new house only to discover that Jack had taken off with all the keys and had gone to the beach for the weekend. I only got to peek at our sawdust covered monster through the windows. That's probably good.

Anyway.....

I keep finding myself getting really emotional about leaving even though my house has been blandized beyond identification. I'm going to miss all of my neighbors. I get all teary-eyed just thinking about it.

<sigh>

My names Jack
and I live in the back,
of the Greta Garbo home for wayward boys and girls.

A/C D/C
She gave me the Queen
She gave me the King
She was wheelin' and dealin'
Just doin' her thing
She was holdin' a pair
But I had to try
Her Deuce was wild
But my Ace was high
But how was I to know
That she'd been dealt with before
Said she'd never had a Full House
But I should have known
From the tattoo on her left leg
And the garter on her right
She'd have the card to bring me down
If she played it right

She's got the jack, she's got the jack
She's got the jack, she's got the jack
She's got the jack, she's got the jack
She's got the jack, she's got the jack
She's got the jack, jack, jack, jack, jack, jack, jack
She's got the jack

Thanks dadpad.

I'd become worried that I'd been forgotten or become boring sitting here all fraught with boredom and forgetfullness.

I'll counter your AC/DC with a little Aretha, one of my very, very favorite songs of all time. (Just posting it, I'm dancing.... (even though it isn't a very good "omen" for moving into a new house))

This is the house that Jack built, y'all
Remember this house!

This was the land that he worked by hand
It was the dream of an upright man
There was the room that was filled with love
It was a love that I was proud of
This is the life, the life that he planned
On the love, the same old loved
Of the house that Jack built.
Remember this house!

There was the fence that held our love,
There was the gate that he walked out of
This is the heart it has turned to stone
This was the house, it ain't no home
This is the love that I destroyed
On the day that I toyed with love,
This is the house that Jack built,
I'm gonn' remember this house!

Oh-ohh wha-a-at's the use of crying?
You know I brought it on myself
There's no denying
But it see-e-ee-ems awful funny
That I didn't understand
Until I lost my upright man

Up on the hill
Everything stands still
In the house that Jack built
I'm gonna remember this house

Listen!
I got the house
I got the car
I got the rug
And I got the rack
But I ain't got Jack
And I want my Jack back!

I turned my back on Jack
He said he wasn't coming back
I turned my back on Jack
He said he wasn't coming back
Ohhh, Jack
You oughta come on back
Ohh Jack
You oughta come on back
To the that you built
It's the same one that you built

I didn't understand
Until I lost a upright man
Come on back Jack

He slipped out the back, Jack?

How frustrating!

I have a feeling this week might be crazy, too (sorry!). But, I hope it isn't.......... Have you called my sister?
