Arriving in Miami on Amtrak; how to get to South Beach?

If one arrives at the Miami Amtrak station (which is actually Hialiah), is the only way to get to the South Beach (Miami Beach) area (Collins Avenue) by taxi? I think the airports have vans, etc., but not the Amtrak station. Is this correct?

No; I'm pretty sure you can take public transportation. They have rail to downton Miami, then the central bus station to South Beach. I think the bus number was 8 from downtown to South Beach.

You can take Metrorail to downtown, to the Civic Center, and then one of several buses to the beach. I imagine a cab ride to the beach to run at least $40.

Love that area. Ocean Drive. What a great spot to people-watch.
