Russia/Serbia face down UN land thieves

If Russia blocks a final U.N. Security Council resolution, Washington has hinted it would back a move by Kosovo to unilaterally declare independence. But the Europeans are opposing such a move and insist that a formal resolution is necessary.

"If we don't have a U.N. resolution that the EU states can cluster around, we may have a repeat of the situation with (the invasion of) Iraq, when some countries went one way and some the other way," said Lars Erik Forsberg, from the EU enlargement directorate.
