We kept to ourselves, pondering the mystery of each other.

What does "we kept to ourselves" mean? (means we depent on each other??)

"To keep to oneself" means "to avoid the company of others" or "to remain separate from others." In your sentence, "we kept to ourselves" means we did not interact with many people and instead spent most of our time with each other.
