"de" implies "down"
"fortis" is an adjective

I would translate it
ab intra vires

This is unrelated to the question, (but since it's been answered I figure it doesn't matter): fortis can actually be an adjective or a noun.

fors, fortis-->noun
fortis, -is, -e-->adjective

Just thought you might want to know that. (But fors, fortis means something different: fortune.)
