Nothos te vexare noli sinere.

(This one comes up from time to time, but usually as a request to verify
whether "Illegitimi non carborumdum" really means "Don't let the
bastards get you down.")

So, is this a literal translation or does this take normal conversation in to consideration.

Not sure what you mean, but here is a breakdown of the translation:

Noli sinere -- Do not let (allow)
Nothos -- the bastards
te -- you
vexare -- literally to harrass or annoy. "get [someone] down" is an English language idiom. This is the closest Latin word I know for it.
