here is a line of text which i dont understand
As a punishment , Harry Poter has been given the task of collecting data about all the elvs in Gringotts Bank
what does it mean by elvs ?
I have seen the dictionary
dictionary says
An acronym for emissions of light and very low frequency perturbations due to electromagnetic pulse sources; extremely bright extremely short (less than a msec) electrical flashes forming a huge ring (up to 400 km diameter) in the ionosphere
this does not seem to match in the text i am reading.
can you please tell ,what could it mean in line of the context ?
I think they meant elves
Quote:elf
-noun, plural elves /ɛlvz/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[elvz] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation. 1. (in folklore) one of a class of preternatural beings, esp. from mountainous regions, with magical powers, given to capricious and often mischievous interference in human affairs, and usually imagined to be a diminutive being in human form; sprite; fairy.
2. a diminutive person, esp. a child.
3. a mischievous person, esp. a child.
A missing "e" makes a big difference!
and in some texts, rather than using the plural "elves", they use "elfs".
but with magicians, ya never know. a few spare light beams may be useful against the evil valdemort...
