Tomorrow, if Penny is lucky, I will get up in time to take her to a major national ritual........then she is due to go to a film and coffee/lunch/dinner in the city.

Today, she is due to meet my "stuffed team" who help me in my work....some of them look a little scary, but I will protect her.

Saturday, she will come shopping and I will take her for a bit of a heritage walk in the city.

WOW! Just catching up with Penny in her international travels.

All the different landscapes and the huge change in climate, going from mountainous all the way to the beach. Oz is HUGE. Of course, it is a continent.

This adventure must be unique. Dadpad is such a wonderful writer, with the ability to get inside a child's mind with the same kind of enthusiasm, that he could write a children's story featuring Penny. Actually, he did.

Penny, you are a very lucky little girl hamster. Some of those people may say strange words, but I can guarantee they are the best and the funniest, as you have found out for yourself.

Thank you all for the photos, the dialogue and the fun.

Sozlet, I can imagine you and Penny still talking about traveling round the world many years from now. This is a lifetime kind of adventure.

Now I'm anxious for more. Where to next?

Oh my!

Now I feel like saying funny words too, because Deb just took me to meet her "stuffed team", and she took lots of photos, but we can't download them because of the cable problem!!!

Some of the team members Deb works with look scary.

There's a huge wolf, and a tyrannosaurus rex, and a big crocodile, and some tigers and stuff.....but they are all very friendly and nice.

Lots of them are puppets, like me, so I felt really at home.

Deb says some of them help kids she sees feel safe and comfortable (cos lots of the kids are sad and scared because they have been hurt), and some of them help kids to talk about how they feel.

The big mean-looking ones help kids who feel very angry......so then they pretend to be mean as long as the kid needs them to.

The nice lady who does reception over where people here see children and families was very kind. She took a photo of me while I was waiting for Deb, and so now there is a photo of me having a drink of water for everyone to see. It is up on the wall.

I saw a HUGE room where kids come to draw and paint and use play to help them feel better.......it is a very lovely room, full of great things to do.

Deb could only photograph parts of the room because the walls were covered with paintings and things the children had made while they got better, and I can't show any of the children who come, or stuff they have made, because everything that happens here is very private and safe.

I met one of the lovely baby dolls Deb uses when she is helping parents and children get very close and loving again, when something has happened that made them not be as close and happy as they want to be.

She does work with them with a funny long name.....it is called Parallel Parent Child Narrative, and it means that the parent and the child talk about their lives together from even before the child was born!!! Lots of the talk is about when the child was a little baby, and the baby dolls really help children to think about how they felt as babies.

MY time with Deb is getting short now....I really hope we can get the thing to let us post photos today. Deb's camera is only a phone one, so the pictures will not be like sarah's, but I hope you can see well enough.

We are wondering where I am going next??????

Penny arrives at work on her first day and sees my office......here is the pin-up board:

We went to Norwood ( a very old and beloved near city suburb) to pick up the phone cable, and Penny saw the Norwood Town Hall:

Wow, that was epic!

Penny does look right at home with all those other puppet-folk -- although is the T-Rex nibbling on her ear?

Sozlet still hasn't seen this stuff, busy day yesterday, hopefully after school today.

FreeDuck mentioned that she's off to Morocco soon... let me check how soon and whether it's feasible to get Penny to Hotlanta in time. (btw Deb I can send you some $$ to defray shipping costs if it's pricey to get Penny from Oz to the US -- Paypal maybe?)

OK lemme check on the Morocco thing...

I like that wooden giraffe too, very cool. I've seen the people versions but never a giraffe version.

I'll only be there for two weeks and can bring Penny back with me to ship on to the next host. She could stay longer with Mr. Duck and the kids but I'd feel really bad if they lost her -- a distinct possibility.

OOne of Deb's workmates, Jenny, has stuff from all over the world in her office, which Penny enjoyed seeing.

One of those things is this Aboriginal painting of honey-pot ants:

http://a51.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/27/l_c1a18eb9c72564a2e9beabd5248c911a.jpg

This would refer to a "honey-pot ant dreaming" most likely...ie a creation story, or some other story of significance.

Honey-pot ants live in Central Australia, and some of the workers function as food storeage pots.

They eat lots of sweet nectar when there are flowers, until their tummies are hugely swollen, and other ants can eat from this store when they are hungry.

They are eaten by Aboriginal people as a sweet treat,

http://lis.epfl.ch/research/projects/EvoAnts/images/honeypotAnt.jpg

More of Norwood, where Penny was today...this is Norwood Parade....a busy shopping, restaurant and coffee drinking place:

Heh!

Two weeks sounds good. I was wondering in terms of how long she'd be in limbo if we didn't get her to you in time (as in, if she arrived May 24th).

This will be way off the beaten path, we've been mostly US, Europe, + Australia so far (oh can't forget Eva's trip to Puerto Rico!). Looking forward to it!

I'll have to send them a more current link to this thread.

Great pics, loved the stuffed team and how they're not really ferocious. Proving, I suppose, the T. Rex are people, too. Smile

Deb, you have a nice way of making toys and people seem safe and loving. I'm not at all surprised.

How nice for Penny to get a little understanding of how people hurt each other and how, if they work hard with someone like you, they can repair the hurt and learn to love and trust.

You're not so tough as you try to appear, are you?

Did you notice the photo of Penny having a glass of water on the wall behind "the team"?

The people here who connected with her think it was a lot of fun, and enjoyed reading about her adventures here.

I am beginning to feel positively jinxed about these photos!!!!

I just took some more of Penny enjoying the view from my window, and of Penny meeting Miranda, and went to download them.

The brand new connector cable I bought yesterday and downloaded with effortlessly will no longer work!!!

So...here is an older version of Penny's view:

http://a26.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/81/l_fd48a76be558548135a720b34db9a061.jpg

and a photo of Miranda, who liked Penny after a bit of initial concern.

(This is an old one taken when Oscar was still alive......Miranda is the pale one.
