We live a few blocks from the river, which is one of the really great places in Tulsa. It's lined with jogging/bicycle trails and parks. Here's one of them...the River's Edge Cafe is here with snacks and drinks and sometimes, like on this day, live music. We like their smoothies. It's a nice place to hang out with your dog and watch the river, the joggers and the bike riders roll by. It's right in the middle of the city, only a mile from the downtown skyscrapers, but it sure doesn't feel like it.

Tomorrow, Penny and I will show you my very, very, absolutely most favoritest place in Tulsa. (We're saving the best for last.)

Then on Wednesday, Penny should arrive in Albuquerque.

Wow, Eva, you and Tulsa will be a tough act to follow!

When Bob and I drove through Tulsa a few years ago, we remarked on how pretty the countryside was. What we didn't know then is how cool Tulsa the city is. It seems like a wonderful place to live. I hope Penny will enjoy her stay here in Albuquerque with different surroundings to see.

Now, you guys....Tulsa is a great place to live, but so are your towns. Penny is going to have a wonderful time in Albuquerque and all the other places she's going. I'm sure of it.

And I'm excited about the idea of seeing all of your towns through your eyes. That's what makes reading this thread so fun.

Okay, last stop in T-town.

My favorite place: Philbrook Museum of Art. I just graduated from the docent program there and regularly give tours. Penny, of course, was given the royal treatment.

The Italian Renaissance Revival house was built in 1927 during the height of the oil boom and donated to become an art museum in 1938. It was designed by Edward Buehler Delk, who more famously designed the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Landscape architects were Hare & Hare. People love this place as much for the house and grounds as the art.

Penny in the Great Hall.

This is every child's favorite room. The owners had seen a lighted dance floor like this in a Paris nightclub and wanted one for their new house. The lights under the floor can change colors. As a docent (ahem), I now have permission to play with the light switches. (This one's for boomer.) The sculpture in the center was located above a fountain which no longer contains water because they must control humidity for the sake of the artwork. These galleries contain part of the Kress collection of Italian Renaissance paintings.

Lucky Penny, that so works! :-)

Very much enjoying the pictures and tour of Tulsa too, I didn't have much of a mental image of the place before now but it's much nicer than I expected.

Penny enjoys a cool breeze on the loggia...

...and a view across the terrace to a portion of the 1990s expansion wing which includes an entry rotunda, a large special exhibition gallery, various gathering spaces, an auditorium, museum shop, administrative offices and an education wing.

And, of course, the formal gardens...

The water flows from the fountain at Penny's feet down through all the terraces to the reflecting pool in front of the tempietto. It is quite spectacular, especially at night.

After walking through the gardens, Penny enjoyed this shady spot. It's in an herb garden next to the house that the museum restaurant's chefs use. Yes, this is a lemon tree.

There are tons more photos of Philbrook available on "Google Images" if you're interested. Besides all the art it contains, the place is a work of art itself. Everywhere you turn, it looks like a painting. I could easily spend all day there. (And have!)

But for now, it is time to leave.

Penny has enjoyed showing you my city. She bids you a fond farewell from Tulsa.

I'm sure, Penny enjoyed that trip even more than I did: she was there Crying or Very sad

(But she'll be fit now to see the differences between neo- and original renaissance buildings and art.)
