Okay, last stop in T-town.
My favorite place: Philbrook Museum of Art. I just graduated from the docent program there and regularly give tours. Penny, of course, was given the royal treatment.
The Italian Renaissance Revival house was built in 1927 during the height of the oil boom and donated to become an art museum in 1938. It was designed by Edward Buehler Delk, who more famously designed the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City. Landscape architects were Hare & Hare. People love this place as much for the house and grounds as the art.
Penny in the Great Hall.
This is every child's favorite room. The owners had seen a lighted dance floor like this in a Paris nightclub and wanted one for their new house. The lights under the floor can change colors. As a docent (ahem), I now have permission to play with the light switches. (This one's for boomer.) The sculpture in the center was located above a fountain which no longer contains water because they must control humidity for the sake of the artwork. These galleries contain part of the Kress collection of Italian Renaissance paintings.
